DEMOCRATIC PLATFORM.
Following are the resolutions
adopted by the Georgia Democratic
State Convention:
1. Resolved, That the Demo
cratic party of Georgia, tlfrough
its accredited representatives as-
scmbled, reaffirm with all emphasis
and fervor the time honored prin
ciples expounded by the sages, Jef
ferson and Madison, and illustrat
ed and enforced by the pure and
able men wherliave by their teach- \
ings and practical enforcement ol
their political faith, advanced the
glory, and promoted tho prosperity j
of this union.
2. Resolved, That we will re- j
new our exertions to give fresh and \
increased power to the operation j
of these principles, being well as
sured by actual experience and the j
teaching of history that the tri
umph of democratic doctrines and
methods brings peace and prosper- j
ity to the people, and assures lion-1
esty and vigor in the administra- j
tion of the government, while the
exclusion of I lie democratic parlvj

good citizen of Georgia to unite
with us in the effort, by all honora
ble means, to restore the ascendan
cy in the union of the party of the
constitution—the party., winch sub
ordinates its policy, it measures
and its asprirations to the require
ments of law and the exactions of
elevated morality, and, hv the ad
ministration of justice equally to
all, brings peace to communities,
thereby securing to our common
country the saving cflicacy of a
political 'ailli and practice which
have so signally rescued our bcl"

particulars of u sad and unfortu
nate occurrence. A fourteen year
old son of Mr. Dan Sliclice was as-
sisting the conveyance of a steam
engine to a neighbors for the pur
pose of thrashing oats, on last
Saturday evening. He was acting
brenkman fo the wagon. While
going down a steep hill tin; wheels
on one side of tlie wagon ran into
a deep hole, throwing the engine
out, anil tlie unfortunate hoy under
it, the boiling water from the
engine running all over his body.
He called out to Ids brother three
tunes and immcdiatly expired,
living only three minutes. Mr.
Sliclice is one of the best citizens
of onr county and we sympathize
witli liis family in their sore afflic
tion.
