Hon. J. Proctor Knott is a de

among a party of friends yester

among tlie worst:
A number of years ago a parly
of Kentuckians swooped down on
New York city “a-seein’ of tlie
siglits.” Several of them wore
from Hie interior of llio state, and
had never Ixjcii ns far cast before,
while llio lender, a shrewd city
citixen, glib of tongue, piloted the
parly through ways that were queer
ami tricks that wore equally so.
They happened upon Mr. Knott at
one of the hotels and claimed him

man they were looking for. Every
sight of the city had been seen ex
cept A. T. Stewart, the merchant

them ?” Thu hero of Duluth pro-
tested that Stewart knew nothing
and cared less for a country con
gressman like himself, and he had
to decline. lie finally convinced
tlie delegation that lie couldn’t ac
company them, nnd they filed
slowly out ot his room, alter ex

out and sec the elephant on their

painful in its intensity. A third
party nodded and smiled, nnd then
only did he recognize his Ken
tucky friends lolling around in tiic
luxurious qunrters perfectly at
ease. At .the head of the delega

patronizing tlie nltcntives.
