Washington, September 11.—
Returng from tlio Maine election
nre in from widely separated points,
nnd all Indicate the vote to be much
heavier than in 1880, and heavy
republican gains, and the probable
election of Robic. At Douiar.scul-
ta and other points, the greenback-
era voted the republican ticket.
Everywhere the Htrnighl green
back, temperance nnd independent
vote is reported ns insignificant.
About three o'clock a heavy rain
Bet in, hut the voting was practi
cally over by that time. All the
returns received nre favorable to
Roble. Nothing ns yet has been
heard from the congressional vote.
The returns from 100 townships in
Maine show a vote differing very
little in total from that of 1880,
bat show a republican gain of 2,-
108 in a total vote of 63,000 nnd n
plurality for ltobie of 0,272.
BOWK ELECTED GOVERNOR.
Pobtland, Me., September 11.—
Robio is elected by 7,600 to 0,000
plurality. The republican congres
sional ticket is carried by about
the same vote. •
