Tbe Times says that extensive
preparations are being made in
Thomasville for Northern visitors.
The Rome Bulletin says: Tbe
Rome Female College lias supplied
the Staunton, Virginia, Female
College with three teachers within
tlie last threo years. All the pupils
who graduate from tills institution
arc capaMle of making good teach
ers.
Whether this is orignal with the
Rome Bulletin man or not wc can
not say. If it is, it is rough on
some one. “A young man on the
fast train put his head out of the
window to speak a parting word to
liis sweet-heart, who still lingered
on the platform as the train moved
ofl. He turned his head for a mo
ment towards tlie locomotive as the
whistle blew a shrill note, and turn
ing to give his darling a last kiss,
prcssc-l tho lips of a negro girl at
the next station. The train was
tlie lightning express. Next.”
The Dooly Vindicator furnishes
us with the following: Mr. F. L.
Smith and wife, of Dooly county,
while returning home from Monte
zuma on Monday evening, wore
thrown from their buggy—-the
horse running away—and both se
riously injured, Mr. Smith break
ing his arm and his wifo her collar
bone. They are both aged, and the
probability is that their injuries
may prove fatal.
Tlie prisoners confined in Dooly
county jail, at Vienna, escaped on
Tburdny last. The Deputy ShcrifT
left the cell door of the prisoners
open, but closed tho outside door,
while lie went after water for tlie
inmates. On his return, as he open
ed the door, John Rogers, who
was standing near by, dashed a pan
of water in the Sheriffs face, and
made a bolt, followed by Jobn
Tlie Coffee County Gazelle says
"a drunk man is seldom seen on
the streets of Albany now-a-dnys.
This is the result of moderation—
not of prohibition, Editor Willing-
ham says.” In our opinion Editor
Willingham is this time, as lie gen
erally is, perfectly correct.
Tlie Calhoun Courier gets even
with 8omcnue in Camilla in tho
following way: When a certain
popular young lady of Camilla, we
learn, wants to cross tho miblic
square pond, during tho rainy suu-
8on, sbe draws off her weo (?) slip
per,quietly seats borself therein nnd
“paddies her own canoe."
A one-legged tramp dropped up

to add ho was a printer.—Ft. Vat

less? Does it always follow that

Thu Atlanta Fost-Appeal says
“Large numbers* of hogs have re
cently been purchased in Ohio und
Illinois to be scut to Georgia and
fattened. There is something re
freshingly novel ill this.” Yes there
is something novel in this. Novel
in that the Georgia farmers should
fatten people’s hogs before they
fatten their own. Our advice would
be to thorn to fatten their own first.
Eastman Times: From tlie Ordi
nary, Hou. J. .1. Kozar, who lias
been engaged iu figuring on the ex
pense t-o the county incurred by tho
late riot, including the recent ses
sion of the superior court, we learn
tliut the same amounts to $6,502.
This being an entirely extra ex
pense, it will muke the tuxes of our
county very higli for tlie present
year, us it is tlie wisli of the pcoplo
generally to have a siillloicnt per
cent levied to liquidate the entire
debt.
We sincerely hope that the next
Representative from this county to
the General Assembly will be able
to get some assistance from tho
State—at least to tlie extent of our
quota of Stutc tax, to aid in defray
ing this expense, as recomracded
by the grand jury.
A stray harpist and a wandering
violinist came to town yesterduy
and it was immediately determin
ed to hare a meeting of the Ucr-

in giving notice of the project, and
at last accounts everybody bad de

to their determination, the meeting
was a small one.—Urililn News.
