Rev. D. Blalock.
Tho Dawson Journal has the following
notice of the death of Rev. D. Blalock
'•Rev. D. Blulock, of the Siinth Georgia
Conference, and father of Mrs. G. S.
Johnson, our pastor’s wife, died nt his
residence in Americus, Gs., on the 25th
instant. Mr. lilnlock lmd been connec
ted with the Conference uh a minister of
thc gospel for moro than forty years and,
prior to his bad health, was considered
one of thc nble.it preachers iu the Confer
ence. For the last twenty yeurs, howev
er, he had been a great sufferer, and the
sad ue.vs ol his death will carry sorrow
to the heart of very ninny warm frjr-nds.

We challenge an y county on earth to
beut this. A gentleman in our city has
harvested two crops, ;is ready to gather
tha third and will have tbe fourth grow
ing on tbo same land before tbo year is
ont. A heavy crop j( oats was taken
from the spot in April and a crop of
forage corn immediately put in; an im
mense yield of this was taken off in July,
and a crop of peas planted. The peas are
ripe unto harvest and a crop of rye
will soon be growing on tbe land, thus
making four crops in h year.
Death of Mr. Uatewood.

Mr. J. BI. Gatewood, whoso illness has
been frequently alluded to in these col
umas, quietly breathed his last at the
residence of Mr. Ed. Richardson on yes
terday, early in the fortnxm. His death
greatly regretted by a large number of
friends, for he was regarded ns one of
nature’s noblemen, strigbtforward ano
unimpeacbuble in his intercourse with
bis fellow-mem His .death is a loss to
the circle of plauters in this county, for
was one of the best. lie leaves a wife
and four dauglitera. Tbe remains will
interred at Newton to-day.
