We have reoeived a copy of Hiram, Bib-

which we find to be replete with interest-
farmers have begun to realizo that there
is money in farming, and that it takes
hard work and dose attention to get it
out. It nm.v be that a few years more of
grain raising will place our farmers in
such a prosperous condition that they
will have time to devote more attention
to the .improvement of live ;stock, nnd
then they will appreciate the value of ag
ricultural fairs as affording/miuparison of
stock and other articles. We wish that
that time was here, but as it is not we
must wait. To have to give up the holding
of the Fair will lie a great disappointment
to the Directors of the Fair Association, os
they liavo devoted much time and spent
considerable money in preparing for it.

Murder In the Couutry.
j Monday morning Coroner Gnerry was
' notified that n negro had been killed on
Mr. T. M. Merritt’s plantation, about six
miles from Americus, and about 9 o’clook,
in company with a BKconiiKltreproseuta-
tive. he went out there. He was fortunate
in finding a jury, there being just the re
quired number on tbe ground, or nearly
so, when ho arrived. Tho killing as
sworn toby the witnesses, was about this
way: Bryant (’lark, the deceased, and
another negro, Andrew Davis, were in
t'etcr Reese’s cabin Saturday night after
they got back from town, when they got
to quarreling, when one called tho other
u d—iu fool, uud they w»-nt outside to set
tle it. Peter Reese, Sim Reese, and Clark’s
wife were iu the cabin at tho time, and
they went out to see bow it would end,
Peter, however, not getting there until it
was over. Sim Reeso went up to Chirk,
(who had a large white oak stick raised
over his shoulder, us if to strike Davis,)
and told him to put down his stick, and
not to have any fuss, and (’lark half low
ered his stick. Reese then started away,
