The Boston Post remarks that it
is pretty certain that Mr. Stephens
has a larger majority per pound
than was ever cast for any other
man for Governor in these United
States.
8imon Cameron claims that Bea

The Congressional election will
be held on the Ttb of November.
On that day Congressmen will be
elected from the nine districts and
one from the State at large. This
is an important election, and one
in which uo apathy should he al
lowed. At no time in twenty years
has there been such importance at
taching to an election, and every
democrat slioul)! do his duty.
The total majority of the oppo
sition to the Democrats in thu 47th
Congress, including Republicans,
Grccnbackers, Head)usters nnd In
dependents, was 25. The net gain
of seven Congressmen in Ohio nnd
West Virginia would. Imd the
membership in the 47th Congress
not been increased, of itself have
reduced this majority to 11. The
membership was increased, howev
er, troin 295 to 325, and so the
Democrats will have to make simi
lar gains in several States . yet to
secure eontro! of the next House.
There is every indication that they
will do so, however.
JUUHE HARRELL'S W ITHDRAW AL
Id another column will lie found
aeard from Judgo D. B. Harrell,
withdrawing himself ns a camU
date for Congress. _ In so doing
we think he has not only noted
wisely but honorably, and it refutes
the charge made against him that
lie was running, not with nny Idea
of being eleuted, blit for the pur
pose of contesting tbe seat in Con,
gresa, in tbe hope that a Republi
can majority would give him the
seat which tho people bad refused
him. The Judge made an honora
ble, straightforward canvass, and
while he failed to win the votes of
the people, he everywhere com
manded their respect. Many wou'd
have been glad to have voted for
him personally, for they recognized
in him an honorable and talented
gentleman; but they didcrod with
him in politics and felt that they
could not at this time afford to de
sert the regular Democratio nomi
nee. We hope the Judge will llnd
in the Democratic |iartv a cham
pion of the reforms he advocates,
and when he again enters the po
litical arena it will be as an advo
cate of the Democratic party, in
which role be will meet with a warm
welcome from tbe peopic of this
district.

liavc plenty of nyrun on their bread. He
iH not worried to death by duns, nnd he
don’t have to f*nenk np a back alley in
order to avoid tbe uinn be owe*. By an
economical man I don’t menu a stingy
man, for there'x a big difference between
economy nnd Htingmexx. Your xtlngy
man don’t enjoy anything, not even bin
breath, for be’x afraid to draw a full
breath for fear he won't have enough to
laxt tbe day out.
Economy rncanx to buy tbe bext at the
lowext priced, and tbut ix tbe reason why
all economical people buy their furniture
of D. B. Hill, for they know that bin fur-
nituto in well nnd neatly made, durable
nnd handxomr. nnd xold nt prices nx low
ax good furniture can be xold for. Thev
know that he keepn a large ntock
aud that they enn make n good selec
tion, get whnt they want, and there ix
more in that than yon may tbiuk, for
when yon buy xometbing yon do not
want you are never xatixflud with it.
There !b another thing your economi
cal man doex—he nlwayx buy* ax inuny
thingx nx poHxible nt one store, knowing
that when he runs up a good bill he can
nlwavx get a good reduction, nnd that ix
another reason why he buyx at Hill’s
Furnitnre Store, for there he can not only
find all kinds of furniture, but he can
buy dixhex, crockery, lamps, silver and
plated ware, curtains, cutlery, and in fact
almost anything to xet np honxekeeping.
Yonr economical tnau knows all.this and
don’t fool away bix time nnd money by
running nil over town after things that
he can purchase nt ono nlnce, nnd he
known that Hill ix always liberal to good
customers.
Finally nnd in boncluxion, my hearers,
I can May that true economy consists in
buying yonr furniture nnd housekeeping
goods at D. B. Hill’s Furniture Store,
which you will Und on Cotton Avenue,
in American.
