- Wo are not aooustnmed'to look to the
editors io-chief of great newspapers, or
upon the grave end weighty politienl page
which they exclusively .edit, fornmase-
ment criticisms, and certainly the wild
est aspirations of tho boldest manager
never would have betrayed him into seek
ing for such recognition from such source
iu the Louisville Courior-Journal, and,
least of all, from tho influential pen of
its great editor. But when it comes to a
really good circus, Hon. Henry Waterson,
like tho rest of us, is very human, and
we like him tho better and respect him
the more that ho is so, and not ashamed
to acknowledge it in iv hearty nnd manly
Way, while, moreover, generous enough
to extend the encouragement of bis influ
ential personal recognition to genuino
merit in the arena, ns elsewhere. He
visited Sells Brothers' Shows at Louis
ville, last fall, when it was not near so
graud, novel and olcguut ns now, and
here is, word lor word, wlmt he was edi-
tori'y delighted in saying of it, after his
city editor lmd devoted a column to
praising it in another page of the paper:
“The attendance nt the two aftornoon
nnd two night exhibitions of Sells Broth
ers’Shows was ho remarkable as to bo
entitled to a special mention. Not less
tlmn from live to eight thoinand persons
were present at each performance. Tin*
perfectness of the arrangements and the
admirable order preserved weieaho quite
ns remarkable as the attendance. Tho
show is a first-class otic, and, although
tho managers make large promises, they
abundantly fulfill them. The entertain^
ments gave thorough satisfaction. The!
circus starts to-morrow oil its tour j
through Kentucky and Tennessee, and j
tie readers of the Courier-Journal in the
places it visits will have an opportunity
of seeing the Lest ami most complete
show in the world.”
This great amusement enterprise,
which, since tho above was written, has
been consolidated with five other exhibi
tions, owned by tho Sells Brothers, aud
to which 1ms been added a number of
rare nnd costly attractions imported dur
ing the winter of 1881-82, will exhibit ut
