lives as pastor and physician, ho so en
deared himself to them by his kindly
sympathy and pure life, that there are
few families in this city who do not fool
that they have lost one of their circle.
Those who knew him l»«st loved him
most.
IBs death was a shock to th' commu
nity, sw his illncsa had been brief, and

ho was improving, and even up to tho
moment of his death there was thought
to be no danger. One sudden pain, caus
ed by rheumatism of the heart, nud ho
was gone. No words arc needed to eulo
gize his memory, for it lives in tho hearts
of all our people, and no word of com-
foitcnn so console those he Baves be
hind as the record ol Ins pure and useful
life.

Dr. Cooper, taken from the “Hun ry of
the Baptist Denomination in Georgia.”
Rev. George F. Cooper Was o *rn July
31st. 1825, iu M tikes county, Ga. In
1828 his parents removed to Hams coun
ty, of which his father was "tie of tho
first settlers. Here he grew up, receiv
in'' only such an imperfect academic ed
ucation as was attainable iu that part of
tho country in those days. Here he
studied medicine with one ortwo phy
sicians, and then weut to L*-xi« gton, Ky.,
for his first, regular course. He was grad
uated in Philadelphia at the Medical
College in 1845. Alter his graduation he
r turned to Georgia and commenced the
practiced of his profession iu Perry,
Houston countv, and in July, 1840, was
married near Perry, to Miss CVtielia 1.
Staley In the wiutor of 181,-48, Dr.
Cooper returned to Philadelphia lor a
supnlimentary course in medicine. He
spent the winter of 1850-51 in New Or
leans. in the great Charity Hospital of
that city. Subsequently he returned to
IVrrv, where he practiced a few years,
when ho moved to Savannah. A your or
two I ter he moved to Am* riens, Sumter
county. Georgia, where ho continued in
trie practice of his medical professional
until he commenced profiling in 185(5.
