Tk» Mm Who Abas'd Riddleberger.
4) ChlCHO New*.
Page McCarty, the gentleman
who wao reported ns having on
hand an "affair of honor" with Rid-
dlebcrger, has returned to the city
from Rlchmopd. MoCarty is a
quiet gentlemanly appearing man.
lie is of medium height and rath
er stout. He dresses trimly and
neatly, and wears a Derby hat low
over Ids pale blue eyes. He wears
a small reddish brown moustache,
fiercely twisted at both ends. Mc
Carty is not the quarrelsome per
son that be has been represented.
He is very quiet, very good natur-
ed and about the last man on earth
to seek a quarrel. The fact that lie
was in bis younger days the prin
cipal in an unfortunate affair-in
which his oppo nent fell, has given
him a terrible reputation ns n fire-
eater. "I do not sec what all the
talk has been about,” said McCar
ty to-day. "Riddleberger attack
ed me personally in the newspa
pers. I answered in the same vein i
and then,obeying the custom of;
my section, 1 went homo so that I
Mr. Riddleberger could find me if]
he cared for more than n newspn-
per talk. Riddleberger Ims an
nounced himself ns one who be
lieves in the code, and as he had
made Certain threats, I went home
so as to satisfy the prejudice of my
section, but I never heard a word
from Riddleberger. I do not be
lieve in the code, but while 1 never
seek a quarrel, I could not afford,
living where I do, to avoid one if j
it were being forced upon me.” It!
is possible that Mr. Riddleberger^
thought before seeking to bring '
about a duei tlmt McCarty is a ]
crack shot, who could not miss hit.- j
ting him inside ofa reasonable dir-
tancc, and that a term of six years
in tho Senate should not be light
ly jeopardized.
That’s a common expres
sion and has a world of
meaning. How much suf
fering is summed up in it.
The singular thing about
it is, that pain in the bad:
is occasioned by so many
things. May be caused by
kidney disease, liver com
plaint, consumption, cold,
rheumatism,dyspepsia,over
work, nervous debility, &c.
Whatever the cause, don’t
•icglect it. Something is
wrong and needs prompt
attention. No medicine has
yet been discovered that
will so quickly and surely
cure such diseases as
Brown’s Iron Bitters, and
it does this by commencing
at the foundation, and mak
ing the blood pure and rich.
Logantport. fnd. Dec. x, i8Sa.
Fur a long time I have been a
sufferer from stomach and kidney
tiileatc. My appetite was very poor
and the very small amount 1 nid eat
disagreed with me. I was annoyed
very much from non-retention of
uiiue. 1 tried many remedies with
no success, until I used lirown's
Iron Hitters. Since I used that my
stomach docs not bother tne any.
My appetite issimply immense. My
kiuney trouble is no more, and my
general health is such, that 1 feel
