The North American Review.
The North American Review for Janu

tWa of the moat prominent advocates
in this country of ths ’’Revision of Church

Rev. Henry Ward Beecher and Rev, Dr.
Lyman Abbott, set forth the grounds
upon which such revision is deemed
necessary ns a defence of revealed religion
gainst the encroachments of skepticism.
two stories above.
In the basement, which has an entrance
in the rear on a level with Jackson street,
is stored a large tmmberof wagons, stoves
and repairs, nails, oils, etcF At the base
ment entrance we step upon an • levator
large enough to hold a wagon or buggy,
upon wbieh is elevated all the goods used
in the upper stones.
The firnt story is one immense room,
78x100 feet, in whioh is stored all descrip
tions of hardware, harness, tinware,
crockery, ropes, rubber belting, and the
thonsand-and-one articles usually found
in a first class hardware store. The front
being almost entirely of glaas, every por
tion of the room is well lighted. The two
sides of the mom are shelved, while in
the centre are placed counters and racks,
all filled with goods, from the smallest to
tho heaviest articles of hardware and
stoves.
Ascending a flight ot stairs, in tho reftr
of tho room, to the second story, we find
another room as large and as well lighted
as tho ono below, which is used ns a car
riage repository and is filled with buggies,
carriages and spring wagocs of every de
scription, and at all prices.
In ; ho rear of the new building is a two
story brick building one hundred feet iu
length and sixty-ftvo feet wide, in whioh
is locatod the tin shop and is stored bug
gy and wagon stock, doors, sash, glass,
paints, oils, putty and building material.
We have no figures at hand to show tbo
amount of business done by this firm, but
it must bo enormous, judging from the
amount of stock they carry and the room
necessary to store it. The fact that they
carry about 01.500 worth of stove repairs
alone, being ablo to duplicate any pieee
of any stove they have ever sold, will give
some idea of the large amount of capital
that must t.ecessarily be invested in their
business.
This large business has been built up
from a comparatively small beginning to
its present diuientions by strict attention
to business and fair dealing, it being
their motto to alwaya give their custom
ers good goods at fair prices. Their suc
cess reflects credit not only upon their
business management, but npoQ Ameri
cus as a business point.

a largo hotel, one capable of rooming
several hundred people. As it is now it
taxes both houses to their utmost to caro

any inducements being offered to regular
