Arthur Gray tendered his resignation, which was not ac cepted. The committee then entered upon the business for which it had assembled. Mr. Daniel, of Richmond, offered a resolution providing for ono con. volition to be held June 2. r ith, to elect delegates to Chicago, Prcsi dcutial electors, candidates tor Governor and Slate IIouso officers. Judge Hall oflered a substitute, which provided for one conviction upon the same plan, adopted In 1870. Roth resolutions and tbo one aonvcnlion idea were forcibly op. posed hy .Mr. Dessau, Mr. Lawson anil Gen. Young, Judgo Ilall, Col. Harris, Dr Carlton, and Col. Dan lets spoke in favor of one convcu- lion. After considerable discus sion. it was decided to put all the motions aside and take a direct Kepiihlivan Colar-Llne iu lleorgla. From tho Uhirago IlornM. Even iu Georgia, whore the re publicans arc scarcer than lien’s teeth, the negro is ignored hy Ids own party. The few federal oilleo- holders, camp-followers, nnd jay hawkers huvo no use for him They do not even care for his vote, for they make no pretense of keeping up a local organization They want the otllces which are parceled out at Washington, and to tbe end that no new livals limy appear they keep tbo negro in the hack-ground. There ia a quarrel now between these men and the blacks concerning the represents, tion of the state at Chicago. The whites want nn entire white dele- gntinn, but tho colored politicians insist on representation. Just how the dispute will be settled remains to be seen. As busring on his controversy a call Just issued by tiro white repub licans ol tbo state lor a mass eon vent-ion possesses a good deal of interest. This remarkable paper ia not addressed to the people, hut to ‘‘the white men of Georgia,” and in no placo does it so much as men tion the colored race. It is signed by Jonathan Noreross, General Longstrcet, William Maikt am, J. C. Freeman and other republicans who teem to have cut loose entirely front the blacks and set up a party of their own on tho color-line. Is it surprising that the south Is solidly democratic under these clr. curas'nnecs?' Tito great mass of tho people from whom the republi can party might draw its voles Is without leadership, organization, or spirit. The patronage which tho party has to bestow is monopo lized by a few white men who have no ntllliulion with the colored race, and who arc quite ns hostile to it ns arc tbo democrats. 1’otsesrcd of all the honors and emoluments which the party has to bestow, these wirepullers have the eflrontery to call a convention of‘white men” in a stale one-hall of whoso popifo Intion is black. This iaa lepuhli- can, and not a democratic call, and is issued in n state where 91) per cent of the people who might he interested are blacks. It is about lime for tho republican party, at ft exists at the north, to spread itself out over the entire conniry or re tire from business. Berrian County Naira. Cn last Friday, the 28th ult., Messrs. R’Q. Houstwa, B. R- John- son, George McMillan and W. K. Roberts, west en a deer hunt in the Alapaba river swamp about three miles from towu. After tak ing their respective “stands” Mr. Houston went below abont three miles to ‘’drive” np the swamp. When he was nesr the B. A W. Ry bridge which crosses the Alapaha three miles east ef this place, os bis return an immense rattlesnake sprang from the brush, and buried its fangs in the calf of his left leg. He at once called for help, and fortunately Mr. J. P. Loyd, seotiea master, who was having some work done near, heard and responded to his call. By the lime Mr. Loyd, reached him, Mr. Houston's leg be low the knee was swollen to twice ita usual size and he was suffering vory great pain. Mr. L. bound a ligature around the leg abort the knee, and then boarded hie band car to come to Alapnha for a phy sician. Dr Fogle was soon fonnd and hastened to the scene of suffer ing. When they reached Mr. Houston’s side, wonderful to relate lie was fonnd sleeping sweetly and the swelling almost gone irom his leg. Around him were lying about a ball bushel 6f dead mosquitoes, who bad drawn the poison from him. These gentlemen, in great surprise, aroused Mr. Houston, who, barring a little weakness from tiro loss qf blood was ts well as he ever was. This isa wonderful story and some may be inclined, jnst as we were, to doubt-it at first, but we nrc personally acquainted with all the parties mentioned except Mr. Houston, and we do not be lieve they would vouch for a eeor, , not truu in every particular.
