The survey of the Americus,
Preston and Lnmpkin Railroad has
been completed, the surveyors have
made their profiles and estimates,
and are now ready for the real
work. Three lines were run from
Americus to the Webster line, but
tlie route to be selected will de
pend somewhat upon tho amount of
subscriptions along the several
lines. The directors meet in
Americus to-day,tfor the purpose
ofelfectiiig an organization, after
which the subscription books will
lie opened, mid as soon as a suffi
cient amount is subscribed woik
will begin. The incorporators have
made no blow, but have quietly and
practically gone to work to perfect
their arrangements, and we have
every reason to believe that the
mad will soon he lmilt.

They will have a parade and con

game of halt between the colored
clubs ol Albany and Ainerinns will
probably he arranged for that day,
and a grand hall and supper at
night will wind up the festivities.
Foot races and other allchtic spoi ts

That two uiile bicycle race was

count of size, was to score a mile
lor 15 laps and No. 4 was to make If,

No. 4 would have to gain 2 laps on
No. 5 to make an even race. When
No. 5 stored 30 laps No. 4 lacked

omitting to say that No. 5 made

The first race was a two mile
dash. For this there were four
entries, W. M. Jones, R. K. Byrd,
John Sheffield, and >;Jobn Hall.
The Judges decided that John
Sbefiield won the race in 9 minutes
and 55 seconds. His first mile was
made in 4 minutes and 56j} seconds.
Hall’s trainer claims that he won

Judges Baid no. Mr. Wooten, one
of the .lodges, made a minority re
port in favor of giving the raco to
Hall. ,_<> ’
In the hour race there were three
entries, Byrd, Jones and Sheffield.
Soon after the start Byrd fell in
turning too short. JoneB, : being
close behind, was compelled to run
Into the railing, where he bent the
right pedal so that he could hardly
turn it. While fixing it lie lost
several laps. After completing his
fiist mile Byrd withdrew, leaving
Jones nnd Sheffield to finish. The
raco was very exciting between
these two the first filtcen minutes,
as Jones worked the wheel for all
be was worth to make up bis lost
laps. It was unavailing, however,
for Sheffield clung to b'ra until the
hour was up, winning the race
with a score of 10 miles and 6 laps.
Jones made 9 milcB and i2 laps.
Jones had to make 17 laps to the
mile, Byrd 17, Sheffield 10, and
Hall 15, on account of difference in
their wheels. This gave the little
wheeled hoys a big advantage, as
they could turn the corners much
faster than the large wheel ones.
The Infantry boys will not make
much out ot the race, hut they
have the satisfaction of knowing
they gave their friends a pleasant
evening.
