A Heavy Rain.
Friday night between 8 and 9
- The Artesian Boys.
Fridsy nopn the Commercial City
base ball club received a telegram
from Mr. Beall,'of the Artesian City
club, stating they would be up and
play that afternoon. Arrangements
were hurriedly made for thevisilors
and when llm afternoon train pulled
in they were escorted to the Com
mercial House, and from there to
McKay’s hill. A few moments
after 4 o’clock game was called by
the umpire, Mr. B. II. Mayo, and
the Arlesians were sent to hat.
They were unable to bat Hawkins
throughout the game, their bases
and scores being made from indi
vidual errors of the home club.
When the Commercial club went to
bat they did so with confidence in
their strong butting and base run
ning powers. They were not will
ing to believe in the marvelous
stories of Wolfe’s curve pitching,
and when the first man struck out
it opened their eves. They began
to lose faith when this was folloir-
ed up by two more out on strikes,
being iinahle to bat tiie curve.
After the first few innings the
game was uninteresting, ns our
boys were unable to do anything
with Wolfe’s pitching. They play
ed gamely, though, and died hard.
At the end of nine innings the score
was 29 to 2, Hawkins and Storey
being the only men to cross the I peaches.

Wynn & Bell.
It is said that No. 1 and No. 2
will have a running test some day
this week. The matter had bettor
be settled some way as to which
the fastest company.
Money or grit must he a scarce
article in A.lhany. In tho game
of ball Friday, the Albany boys
would bet nothing until tho game
was half way Hi rough.
Broom Pins for the Broom Bri
gade, just received by
James Fujcker & Bbo.
By reference to Mr. S. M. Cohen'
advertisement it will be seen that
he is now prepared to handle dried
fruit with profit to the producer.
With a good market, our people
should turn their attention more
to dried fruits, as they can in this
munner save tho great surplus of
home plate.
Wolfe is undoubtedly in the gen
eral meaning ol the word, a pro
fessionul pitcher, and no amateur
nine can hat him, us was shown in
Dawson Friday morning, when the
Eufaula boys “kicked” at the end
of three innings. Onr home hoys
played poorly, miserably, you
might say, and made unpardonable
errors.
Should a return game lie played,
the hoys will insist upon Albany
having a straight pitcher.
A Fine Compliment.
The Speaker of the House of
Representatives paid a fine compli
ment to our Congressman, Hon.
C'liaa. F. Crisp, in appointing him
on a select eoinmittee to inquire as
to the capacity ol the steel works
of the United Stales to furnish
metal for gnus of high power and
metal plates for the construction
of vessels of war; also as to the
character and siilfiojency of ma
chincry in the navy yards and

tion of engines suitable for ves

Fruitful Favors.
We are indebted to Mr. W. F.

merit of this melon is that while
it grows as large and is us sweetus
other varieties, it will keep for
several weeks after being pulled
frpui the vine.
We are also indebted to Dr. R.
C. Black and W. F. Hare for flue
melons. To Capt. A. C. Bell for
line peaches and melons. To Mr.
U. W. Morgan for some extra fine
j t-aci'cs, and Mr. B. F. Morgan for
some good old fashioned seedling
peaches. These favors aro appre
ciated not only for the benefit re
ceived from the fruit, hut for khal-
ly feeling which prompts the gift.
Besides, being interested in the
development of this section, we are
pleased to have an opportunity of
inspecting and noting Its products.
