Americus Recorder. W. fc. OLKIMEB, Eriltor. Official Organ of Webster Couty. FKIDAY, JIII.Y UDEPKflDEVf Mi.Mi'KSTO On Tuesday last the Independ ent Republicans met In convention in Mew York and adopted an ad dress. tQ„Uie independent voters of tbe country, the concluding portion of which we give below. Tbe con vention was largely attended by a number of prominent men, and an organisation was effected looking forwsrd to setivb work during the campaign. The address shows that they are in earnest in their deter mination to detent Blaine. Wbitf .Uie Republican nomina tion presents a party whom we can not support, the Democratic party presents one whose namo is the synonym of courage and honeBly, and,of administrative political re form. He has discharged every official trust with sole regard to the public welfare and with just disre gard of mere partisan and politieal advantage which, with tbe applause and confidence of both paities, have raised him from the chief ex ecutive administration of a great city to that of a great State. His unreserved, intelligent and sincere support of reform in the eivll service has firmly established that reform in the State and cities of New Yoik, and his personal convictions, proved by hiv official acts, more decisive than any possi ble platform deolaratious, are a ? guarantee that in Its spirit and in ts letter reform would be enfor ced in the national administration. His high sense of duty, his abso lute and unchallenged official integ rity, bis Inflexible courage in resis ting party pressure and public out cry, his great experience in the de tails of administration, and his com manding executive ability and in dependence are precisely the quali ties which tbe political situation demands In tbo chief executive offi cer of the government, to resist corporate monopoly on the one hand, demagogue communism on the other, and at homo and abroad, without menace or fear, to protect every right of American citizens, and to respect every right of friend ly States by making political mor ality and private honesty the basis of constitutional administration. He is a Democrat who is happily free from all associations with the fierce party difTeienoes of tbe Blave ry contest and whoso UnancLl views arc in harmony with those of the best men in both parties, and coming into publio prominence at a time whan official purity, cour age and character are of. chief im- portanoe, presents the qualities and promise which the independent voters desire and which the great body of Republicans, believing thoso qualities to be absolutely in dispensable in the administration of government at thiB time, do not find in the candidate of their own party. Such Independent voters do not propose to ally themselves iiiextrioably with any parly. Such Republicans do not propose to abandon the Republican party nor to merge themselves iu any other party. But they do propose to aid in de feating tbe Republican nomination, which, not for reasons of exped- ienev only, but for high moral and patriotic oonsldcratious, with a due regard for the Republican name and for tbe American character, was unfit to be made. They desire not to evade the propor responsi bility of Amcricau citizens by de clining to vote, aiid they desire also to mako tne!r votes ns effee tive as possible for an.honest, and pure, and wise administration, low can such voters, who, at this A reunion of the ex-Confcdeiate soldiers of Monroe county will be held in August. A. J. Cleveland’s son Columbus, who is about 12 years old, recites every Sunday at Sabbath school from 50 to 1.17 verses of the Bible. His progress in the common school is also most remarkable. VVarrcnton Clipper: There is a family in this county consisting of threo or four females and one boy, who are doing some of Hie most remarkable farming on record. With tbeir own hands and without tlie aid ofa horsa they cultivate enough land to support themselves. Their crop, wc arc informed, is as clean as any in the county, and every hit of the plowing they do by pulling the plow themselves, while one of the number holds the han dles and directs its course. The house in which they live was par- tally built by them. It is a large bird which he killed one day this week. He was about to go in bathing, when his attention was attracted by a singular looking fowl a short distance down stream. He ran home, got a gun, and bagg ed wlmt proved to be a while stork, that by actual measurement with a square, was 4 feet high, and 5 feet 8 inches from tip to tip. It was a beautiful bird, being perfect ly while, with the exception of a light black border on its wings and tail.
