Sew Baptist Clmrcli.
An examination of thu plans for
the new Baptist Church, drawn by
Bruce A Morgan, of Atlanta, shows
that when it is completed Amerieus
will have one of the handsomest
church edifices in the State—not
that it will be the most costly, but
the most tasty and best arranged.
It will be built of briok, with dress
ed stpne tablatures, corners, caps,
casings, with galvanized cornices.
The front vestibule, ou Church
street, will be 18x30 feet, with one
entrance from the street and two
entrances into the audience room.
Tbe audience room will be 45x5G
feet in front of the rostrum, which
will stand in alcove. There
will be three rows of seats, with two
center aisles and two side aisles.
On tbe east side of tbe audience
room will be a lecture room, 24x40
leet, connected with the audience
room by archways, which will bo
closed with sliding screens, so tlmt
the two rooms can be thrown Into
one when necessary. Back of the
audience room, anti on each side of
the rostrum, will be two dressing
rooms, one 14x20 feet and the
other 12x18 feet. The windows
are to bo arched in Gothic style,
and on the east side, fronting
Forest avenue, will be a largo triple
window. The wood work in tho
inside is to be grained in imitation
of walnut. Tlie floor of the audi
ence room will have a gradual as

Morphine’s Effects
Thursday night Mr. Ike Wig
gins, of this county, sent to Dr.
Tinsley, near by, for a dose of mor
phine to stop a sick headache lie
had. When it came, he swallowed
it in the usual manner, and very
soon fell asleep. His sleep did not
appear natural, or like it was pro
duced by ordinary opiates, and bin

were made to arouse him, but to

A Reliable Pharmacist.
Mr. W. A. Cook, or “Alex,” as
lie is generally known, 1ms been
engaged in the drug business lor
over twenty years. He first began
busiuess on his own account in this
city, under the Ann name of W. A.
Cook A Co., at the drug stand now
occupied by .1. A. A D. F. Daven
port, in 1805. During that timo
and since he has compounded
medicines for the sick of almost
every family in Amerieus. Such
is his skill as a pharmacist that
many people and phyaioians de
clare that “no other shall put up
our prescriptions.” Mr. Cook is
determined to keep up with tho
times in his chosen profession,and
iaBl winter attended lectures nnd
graduated at Philadelphia College
of Pharmacy. Mr. Cook has lately
accepted a situation with J. A. A
D. F. Davenport, who are to lie
congratulated upon securing the
services of so reliable and skilled
a pharmacist.
Clay and Jordan Agree.
As my great friend, Mr. John
W. Jordan, so readily grasped at
the idea that I was advertising my
oats, ill a nice, quiet way, and ad
miring mo for buying corn and
keeping my oats to sell, 1 hope lie
will allow me to liestow upon him
the shrewd and delicate compli
ment of his ingenuity and business
tael in drumming for and adver-
tising the mule market in his very
delieale way. But if my friend
Mr. Jordan is not careful, compli
ments will become stale, as the gen
tleman whom lie wishes to confer
the honor upon as being a model
farmer (which I will admit that lie
is) is not so lood of newspaper
notoriety as either In- or myself.
Hoping to realize as ihn.eli for my
oats in proportion to their worth
as my friend Mr. Jordan does for
his mules or horses, I am respect-
fully, C. C. Clay.

years ol age, while at play in the
