The show of colts advertised to take place in this city on Tuesday was better attended than we had hoped for. The display was not only large but good, and showed that the farmers of Sumter county had no occasion to tend off to other States for horses if they would but improve their opportu- T nitics at home. We have seldom ; y seen a better display of colts, and are of the opinion that these an nual shows of colts are awakening in our farmers h disposition to raise their own horses. M. L. Lackey showed three colts, 16, 5, and 2 months old. ILK. Howe showed one colt of 15 months and two ol 3 months. James McGar- rah showed one of 1C months. Al bert Brady showed a fine one ( of 13 months. Frank Herndon showed one of 16 months. S. ' S. Montgomery showed one of 16 months. M. L. Hudson showed one of 6 months.- I. II. Wiggins showed one of 6 months. W. W. Hooks one of 6 months. J. II. Walker one of months. Al-1 bert Brady one of 3 years. The j premiums awarded were as follows: Albert Brady on best colt of 3 i years; James MoGarrah, first pro- ! mium on colt over one year and ■ under 2; M. L. Lackley, second premium on colt over one year and under tw>; I. IT. Wiggins, best ?olt under one year. We are of the opinion that every farmer in Sum ter county who raises a colt do- j serves a premium, and if lie does j not get it at the hands of a com-' mittee he will get it when lie fig ures up the profit between raising 1 his own stock and sending lo Ken- j tucky for it.
