Yesterday while Bill Smith and a negro were carrying the counters into Pricker’s now store, the negro was seized witli a fit and dropped all the weight on Smith. Smith was terribly strained and his hands were slightly hurt. The people of Stowart county held another railroad meeting at Lumpkin Thursday. Those good K le have a hard time with their tblo scheme, and it is probable that many, many moons will wax and wane before the whistle of the locomotive frightens the babies of Stewart.—Eufaula Times. The wish is evidently father to the thought with the Times, as it knows that a railroad to Lumpkin will take away much of the cotton trade of Eufaula. In a very few moons tlie babies of Stewart will have become accustomed to the sound of the whistle of the locomo tive on the Americus, Preston and Lumpkin railroad. It is a singular coincidence that on Wednesday morning the Kecor- der and the Atlanta Constitution both contained a leading editorial contradicting tho assertion of Com missioner Henderson that farming In Georgia docs not pay. Henderson were elected members of the so ciety. Mr. Stubbs was called to the chair while President Black opened the discussion on the "Cultivation and preparation of'rice," which subject was gcrerally discussed by members present. Col. W. T. Toole gave a very in teresting detail of the State Agri cultural Convention on tbc 12th Inst. He dwelt with force on the great benefits derived from this body, and |tbe importance of an education for farmers. Maj. Pickett made a very inter esting address on tho social and political position of tlie farmer, and tlie importance of having farmers in our legislative hull-.. S. W. Small, G. A. llerodon and Jno. H. Hawkins intend ed to arrange tlie second story of his brick business block, on the corner of Cotton Avenue and For syth street, for n hotel, to be kept by Mrs. Allen, tho present landlady of the Farnum House at Dawson. Tbc material is being placed on the ground, and tbc workmen are engaged in making the necessary alterations. There will be twenty- one bed rooms, u commodious of- fico, baggage room and dining room. There will be two entrances, tbo main one to tbc office on Cot ton Avenue and a side entrance on Forsyth streot. A veranda will be built entirely around the building, with doors leading out to it from every ball.
