There is a way, however, to se cure snub a population without going to Europe for it, and it lies within tbe power and province, ol tbe railroads to do it, not ns pub lic benefactors or on the score of patroilisui, but purely as a busi ness investment. Along the lines nud within ten miles of Georgia railroads may lie found thousands of acres of land that can he pur chased for from tl totfi per acre; fertile, healthy, well watered lands. It is estimated that tbe joint canvass has been worth 10,000 votes to tbe Democratic ticket. Niiiuter County Agricultural Society. . This society held its tegular meeting on Tuesday last, President Rlack in the chair. The subject for consideration was ably discussed by Maj. Picket, Wilkinson, Burkhalter, Gnerry and others, and it wns eloquently urged that farmers should economize in their expenditures nnd try to live within their incomes. The subject for discussion at the next regular meeting is, “Wbat is tlie best disposition a farmer ran "make of bis cotton seed f" nnd D. C. X. Burkhalter and D. T. H. Stewart were appointed to prepare essays on llte question. Th n question of- making n dis play of tlie resources of Sumter county at llte State Fair and New Orleans Exposition was next, con sidered, anti it wns thought that the importance or the subject demanded a public meeting of all the citizens of the county, as it was a matter tlmt should interest all classes. It was therefore decided to' call a public meeting, to bo held at the court house in Americus on Tuesday next, tbe liitb, at 10 a. m., at which tfmo it is hoped that all who arc Interested in seeing it proper representation ot the resources of Souvbwestern Georgia will be ptesent.
