An Americas Belle Abroad.
Though Americus has many beautiful
and attractive society women, there is
ever a vacuum when one absonts her
self from the home circle to lend her
graces to the neighboring cities.
The many udmlrers of Miss Hattie
Windsor will be pleased to hear of her
arrival home from a lengthy visit to An
niston, Ala., and to know of the many
social courtesies extended her during
her sojourn in hospitable Anniston.
Miss Windsor returned last night, ac
companied by her father, Mr. John
Windsor, who went up to Macon to meet
her. It is with pleasure that Tins
Times-Kkcorder notes the entertain
ment given In honor of the visiting
young ladies in Anniston on Friday eve
ning, April 14th.
Among the guesta none were more
elegantly attired and Toyally feted than
Miss Hattie Windsor. The following is
an account of the “bal poudre,” and a
description of a fen of the most charm
ing ladles present:
"What is it you wish? An account of
the bal poudre given by the Nine O’olook
Cotillion Club Friday evening at the Inn,
A description of the beauty which An
niston and the neighboring cities proud
ly wear as the brightest jewels in their
crown? Glorious theme 1 Enought to
make the cold lips of a soft-shell clam
break forth into fiery eloquence. Truly
‘a strain of music’ without ‘its chord of
melancholy,’ was this occasion—a sym
phony of bright glanoes, soft voices and
rythmio tread of many dancers. Art
and nature joined hands in forming
back-ground for this fair picture. The
rooms were beautifully deoorated in the
club colors of blue, white and yellow;
the floral decorations were palms and
evergreens. Inspired by the strains of
Wurm’s orchestra from Atlanta, the
hours passed 'as swift as meditation at
the thoughts of love.' Men Jon some of
the fairest?
"Miss Marguerite Kelly—'how brill
iant and mirthful the light of her eye,
like a star glancing out from tho blue of
the sky’—was very pretty in a gown of
white and gold moire antique, trimmed
with gold fringe.
“Miss Hattie Windsor, a lovely Amer
icus belle, who has won many hearts
during her visit in the city, was elegant
ly gowned In a handsomo combination
costume of cream brocaded silk sub
lime, and crepc de-chine, trimmed with
exquisite lace and silver cords. Her or
naments were diamonds,specially suited
to her rich brunette beauty.
"It was the universal verdict that
Miss Meda Huger, of Mobile, gowned in
• handsome dress of white, was one of
the most striking looking girls in th 0
room. Lack of space prevents an elabo
rate description of the many charming
women and the beautiful toilets, which
were rendered still more beautiful by
the almost magic effect of the lanterns
and calcium lights used in the grand
march which was so gracefully and
skillfully led by Mr. Eli Hulsey and Mr.
So ruby Booth.
“Over thirty couples participated in
the most delightful geruian which An-
■ n has ever witnessed."

Gorman’s minstrels is booked for next
Wednesday niglrt, and a first-class show
is promised. The advance agent was
here yesterday, and handsome litho
graphs were put up on the bill boards.
The Lowell Daily Times says:
The performance of this organization
at the opera house was satisfactory to
the large audience that witnessed it.
The old time first part*was omitted and
the almanac jokes got a rest. There was
no lack of singing during the evening,
however, and the company Is strongly
equipped in this particular. J. M. Nor-
cross, the veteran basso, who has been
before the public for thirty years, still
maintains his reputation as one of tho
best singers in the profession; tho Gor
mans in their character acts do every
thing with skill and finish. Arthur Rig
by’s monologue was so amusing that the
audience held him as long as he would
stay, and tho sentimental songs of John
Ilyams and Alex Cameron were well
rendered gems. Koto’s contortion act
and Lyman’s transformations added va
riety to the excellent program, a pleas
ing and noticeable feature of which was
a prevalence of white faces.
