“I think It will be finished by contract
time or soon afterward,” said Mr. O. I*
Norrman yesterday about the new hotel.
“And it will bo a beauty,” he added.
Mr Norrman is the architect of the
building, and has been in the city a day
or two on business connected with it.
Everybody here is familiar witli the
plan ns is exhibited, and from this know
something of the beauty. which 1b to
characterize the building. Now they
can scee some of the beauty portrayed
by the building itself, but none who
havo not clearly examined every part
have any idea ot how elegant and con
venient will be every part.
Mr. Norrman expressed himself quite
freely about the hotel, and says he is
eminently satisfied with the work done.
Every part bo far is perfect, and the
arcliit«ct is greatly pleased with the
work.
There will not be a handsomer hotel
anywhero when it is finished. Mr. Norr
man saye It will be second to no hotel in
this country, except the Ponce do Leon.
The greatest care is being taken to make
the inside arrangements the very best,
and no modern convenience will be loft
out. The wood work will bo the hand
somest attainable, and the whole of the
Interior will be as elegantly fitted as the
best hotel in the United States.
Thoro are few people even in Ameri
cus who appreciate these facts, and it is
time they knew that we are to hare de
cidedly the preitieatand most handsome
ly furnished hotel In the state. The 150
bed rooms are all situated so as to give
the most comfort to the guests he it
summer or winter.
Tho building committee, like Mr.
Norrman, is delighted with the work
done, and each day adds to their admi
ration of the building.
CapL James Smith, the contractor, is
one of the finest to be found, and has
done excellent work all over this state
and others. Ho says the hotel will bo
a most elegant piece of work.
The particulars of tho Inside work
have about been decided, and contracts
will be given out in a few days. Messrs.
T. Wheatley, E. A. Hawkins and Dr. E.
J. Eldridge, the committee on the work,
opened the bids for plumbing, gas fit
ting, steam heating and elevators yes
terday, but give no definite result. A
few more particulars are wanted from
some of the firms bidding, and It may
be Monday or Tuesday before every
thing Is fixed.
The name of the hotel will be dis
cussed at the meeting next Tuesday,
and will soon be decided. Tub Timks-
Recordbb’b offer for suggestions from
the people seems to have taken and sev

The Need of Hacks.
If some enterprising citizen would es
tablish a regular line of hacks to meet
the trains coming In and going out of
Americua it would be a regular bonanza.
There are a few hacks at the day tralna,
but when night comes on they crawl
into their boles, and are seen no more
until morning.
It la a great inconvenience to the
traveling public to have to lug their bag
gage from the depots to the hotels, end
the complaint la loud against It. There
are dozens of people coming and golug
every day, and a quarter from each
would make a handsome profit on the
outlay of a few good hacks.
