There will be a grand union plcnlo on
Friday next at Ochtlla, on the Savannah
and Weatern railroad, twelve miles east
of Columbus.
The Buena Vista Sunday schools have
extended an Invitation to the schools at
EllaviUe to join them at Ocbllla In a
union picnic, and the probability is that
the kindly invitation will be accepted.
Pending this, however, a cordial invi
tation has been extended both the Buena
Vista and EllaviUe schools to picnic at
Magnolia Dell, in this city, instead of
going to Ochilla, and there is reason to
believe that both schools will accept and
come here.
Mr. U. B. Harrold has been quite ac
tive, among other prominent citizens, in
urging the change, and has put forth
every effort to have the schools come to
Amerlcus. Yesterday he wired the com
mittee at EllaviUe regarding the matter
and received the following reply:
Our school has accepted the Invitation of

Atwood, Ga.,May 5.—We are needing
rain badly, but both cotton and corn are
looking well. Corn la knee high, and
nearly ready to lay by. Several are

popular young banker of West Point, Is

E. F. Lanier, for a day or two.
Mr. Edgar Dunlap, the efficient gen
eral manager of the Americus Guano
Company, went to Atlanta yesterday on

Mr. L: C. Trlppe leaves tble afternoon
for Atlanta, where he may deoide to re
main during the summer, returning to
Americus again with the opening up of
the busy season.
Rev. Robert Adams snd family left
yesterday for Milledgeville, where Mrs.
Adams and little daughters will spend
the summer months with relatives. Mr.
Adams will return Saturday.

commenced at the Baptist tabernacle
lest week, will be continued throughout
this week. The attendance nightly has
