Americus’ magnificent new hotel hat been named, and benoeforth, from the frozen lakei of the north to the orange grovee of Florida; from the Atlantloto the Pacific, that name will bo known of all men. “Hotel Alhambra.” What other name le prettier or more appropriate? Ever since It became known several days, since' that the dlreotor* of the Americus Manufacturing and Improve ment company, to wbioh the hotel be longs, were about to decide upon a name for It, there bee been not a little (pecu lation as to what their deoltion wold be. Yesterday was the time appointed for the name to be seleoted, and at 5 o’clock the directors met in the preetdent’e of fice at the Bank of Southwestern Geor gia for this express purpose. President Speer itated the object of the meeting, and rightly presuming that everyone present was ready to express his choice, requested that each dlreotor would announce the name that be pre ferred. On the firat call quite a variety of names were presented, among which were that of “Huokalee,” “Magnolia,' “Americus,” Semlramla,” and quite number of others. To Col. E. A. haw- kins belongs the honor of luvlog pre sented the name accepted, “The Alham bra,” and on the second call this selec tion was made unanimous. “The Alhambra" for such It now Is, will be, when completed, one of the finest hotels and one of the most com plete In all its appointments, In the state, if not in the South. Work upon it began in September, 18B0, and It will be completed by or before Sept, let next The namo given the splendid new hotel is in every respeot suitable. As is well known, Alhambra was the, name given to the fortress which forms a sort of abropolls or citadel to the city of Granada, and in whloh stood the palace of the ancient Moorish kings. The name is a corruption of the Arablo “Kal-at al hamra,” tbs red castle. The splendid new building now near- lug completion le in itself a “rod cattle," which faet renders the name given it en appropriate one. With its lofty towers, spires.and turrets it will present an Imposingappearance, and all Americus will be proud Indeed of “Hotel Alhambra."
