S. The city council met in regular se. •ion last night, every member being present The first business brought before the body waa the report of the special com mittee appointed last week for the pur pose of defining the boundary line be tween the city hall lot and the land ad joining, which Is owned by the county. The report was to the effeot that the narrow strip claimed by both, about four feet, be deeded to the county upon condition that the lot between the court bouse and city ball, owned by both sides jointly, always remain open; and farther- more, that ahould the county oommis- mlsslonera decide to erect the proposed new jail in the roar of this lot, that the frontof said building extend no further westward than the rear end of the city hall building. Tho'report was received and adopted. The report of the committee on Are department was next handed In. Alderman Davenport Introduced a resolution appropriating $200e*ch to the four companies composing the depart ment, viz: Wide-Awake, T. Wheatley, Vigilance and Protection, to be paid quarterly. Ho was sustained by Alder men Bivens, Williford, Williams and Logan. Alderman Wheatley opposed this ap propriation, thinking the amount exces sive, and moved as a substitute that each company be paid $37.50 quaiterly in stead of $50, as suggested by Alderman Davenport. Considerable discussion followed, Mayor Felder and the aldermen favor ing Mr. Davenport's motion taking the ground that the amount asked for was not excessive if tho department proved Itself efficient. All they demanded was to know that each company was well or ganized, and that each held regular meetings and drilled at stated Intervals. Alderman Davenport consented to this and altered his resolution so as to make It Incumbent upon each company receiving this appropriation to meet regularly once a month, and to practice quarterly. Also, that Wide-Awake’s engine be retained by that company, and tbat the city bear the expenee of run ning and keeping the same in repair. There being no objection to this tho resolution was unanimously adopted, and eaoh of the four companies named above wilt receive an annual approprl a tlon of $200. The Independent hoke companies, some six or eight in number, will tote their own skillet as heretofore. A number of bills were read and ordered paid, after which the meeting adjourned. Director. Meeting The regular monthly meeting of the board of Direotore of the Time. Pub lishing Company will be held at the office of the company at 430 o’clock this afternoon. J. W. Kldridge* Drag I It does not matter how yon spell it—it sounds tbe same whether you say Cash or Kash, and in these times it works wonders. We know whereof we speak, for lo, in these lust few days onr buyer has returned from the northern mar kets and we know what wonders Kash has worked there, and yon shall know what wonders Kash shall work here. This will apply to small every day trifles as well as to large specialties. Do yon use matches? Don’t you pay fi cents for two boxes containing two hundred each? Well, Butler & Berry sell the same matches at 1 cent a box. Think of matohes at 1 cent a box! Maybe you don’t use clothes pins, but maybe when yon’remem berthat other storea obarge ten cents a dozen for them, and yon find ont here that Bntler & Berry sell clothespins for I cent a dozen, yon will realize that the aforesaid Bntler $ Berry are “Cheap Folks” all the time in every particular. Now we have been quietly pre paring for yon. and the Berry sea son we con show yon another wonder that Kash has worked. Think of beantifnl berry dishes—as clear as crystal—us bright as dia mond—not cut glass of course— but for three oents eaoh—you have priced the SAtne for 60o. a set- three oents eaoh at Bntler <fc Berry’s. There’s a new wrinkle in onr stock in the shape of a pretty plain white ironstone china wash- stand set—10 pieoes for $2.70. There are about 2 dozen sets left —and if you want one, why you are welcome to the ohoice. There isn’t any money in the deal for us —but then you know its a dandy advertisement. $2.70 for an iron stone china 10 piece wash-stand set—of coarse that means at Butler & Berry’s When you come down town again, look in at the additional counter room we have made— Glassware, Ornaments of all kinds —and Lamps—why there’s stacks of Lamps. Speaking of Lamps— did yon ever price a Student's Lamp at any other store?—asked you $5.00 for one, didn’t they? Wehavo boen getting $4.50 at the Artesian Corner for them our selves. We have them now—we have lots of them—the fact was— wo had to buy lots of tbem—bnt this lot is to sell for $3.90—think of it—a genuine Student’s Lamp, $3.90.
