At last Americus U to have that which, more than anything else, ahe baa so long felt the need of—a board of trade. The ball was put in motion yesterday by a few public spirited citizens, and is now rolling on towards success. And tliat success is almost within the grasp of those who have worked so long to acco.mplisb this much desired object, and ere the setting of another sun the initiative steps will have been taken to- wards the accomplishment of this end. There is not a city in the state, if in the South, of the size and commercial Importance of Americus that lias not its hoard of trade, and the wonder is that the commercial metropolis of Southwest ern Georgia has not taken long ago the important step that wilt be taken to-day. Many times within the past year or two tlie subject lias been agitated more or less, particularly by tile press of the city, but never yet has any concert of action in regard to tills most important matter been taken by our business men. Not that they did not see and realize fully the manifold advantages that would arise therefrom to every trade and industry in Americus, but each, presumably, wailed upon others to take tho Initiative, and aa as a consequence nothing was done. However that may be, the ball has at last been started, and in a manner that insures the ultimate snccess of the en terprise. Americus must and will hare a board of trade, sand that right away. A list was started by a committee of citizens yesterday, calling for a general meeting of bnslneas men at the opera house this afternoon.
