Death of Mrs. O. W. Glover*. Mr*. G. W. Glover is dead. After a lingering illness she died yesterday afternoon at tbe residence of her husband on Lee street. When the messenger of death came “sustained and soothed by an unfaltering trust, she ap proached her grave and cheerfully wrapt the drapery of her couch about her, and lay down to pleasant dreams ” Sorrow has settled like a pall over this once happy and joyous household. The black messenger of doath has kneeled at the doer, and now fond hus band, loving children and devoted friends must stand beside the grave which is to receive the body of the one so dear to them. In this their hour of sore affliction the bereaved have the cordolence of all the people of Americus, who lament with them in the loss of their loved one, and It now seems useless to gild a grief with words. Mrs. Glover was the daughter of Hr. J. E Sullivan. She was 30 years old. Waa married December 22, 1873, and has lived her entire life In Americus, and each year which was slotted her was but a chapter in the volume of good deeds which characterized her life. Six children, all of tender years, are left to fight life’s battles without tbe loving admonition of a mother. They realize the saddest words, “We have no mother now.” This devoted wife, loving mother and unselfish friend, waa ever mindful of others and duty waa her first law. 8he bestowed social blessings on all around In a home made always happy by her genial presence. She died aa she had lived, peacefully, and her spotless soul went to join the white robed throng which circles 'round the great white throne. Her funeral will.take place Saturday morning at 0 o'clock from the First Methodist church. The following friend* will act as pall bearers: U. B. Harrold, E. J. Etdridgo, H. C. Bagley, P. C. Clegg, J. It la by no meant a settled fact that tbe negro college la to be located in Sa vannah, the decision of the board of commissioners to thateffeet notwith standing. In foot, It Is altogether probable that Americus may yet be selected as the site, In view of events that have trans pired since tbe first decision of the board was made. Americus, Savannah and Mllledge- ville were the three cities bidding for the Institution. Tbe board of commis sioners appointed by the governor to se lect tbe site voted In favor of Savannah, that city having promised the largest donation in cash as an inducement for locating the college there, besides giv ing valuable grounds upon which to build tho same. This decision upon the part of tbe commission settled the matter apparent ly, and the other cities bidding relin quished all hope of securing tbe univer sity for themselves. The money considerations offered were not cash, however, and this fact accounts largely tor the present state of affairs, After repeated efforts to do so Savannah has failed to raise by subscription the amount neocssary to secure the location of the college there, and now, In all probsbl'lty, some other eity will be se lected a. tbe site. And tbat city will be .Americus, un less, Id tbe meantime, Savannah succeeds in raising the required amount, which In theJight of recent events ta'by no mean* probable. Mayor Felder la a member of tho board of commissioners to determine the ques tion of location. At a recent meeting of the board, the following reeolntlon as adopted: Resolved. Tnatthe matter of the definite and final location of the coilese he poetponed until the 16th day of Jane next, and that the choieeaball then be between Savannah and Americus, aud the place offetinz the beet in-' dnoementn In ecnel each property and bona fide good miMcrlptlom, eb.ll be then •elected. This, it would seem, prmotlcally de cides tbe question of location. It may be, however, tbat Savannah can yet manage to raise the required amount within the time specified in tbe above resolution, and thereby secure tbe college. / Whether the colored people here will increase their bid is not known. Nor Is it by any means certain- that even the amount previously subscribed can be raised now, aa the deeleion of tbe board In favor of Savannah refined the aub- seribers here of all obligation, and it might be .dlffionlt to secure again even the turn that was rejected along with Amerions’ bid tor the oollege.
