fight occur ml on Monday near Stack-
house, In Madison county, X. C., be
tween six young men about a girl.’
A young man of the name of Shelton
was in love with a buxom mountain lass.
A rival whose name was Stanley was
also favored by her. Two of the Stan
ley brothers and another man whose
name was not learned met Shelton, and
ithout any words opened fire on him.
Two cousins of Shelton went to his
aid. and the battle began. Pistols, shot
guns and razors were used. When the
tight ended it was found that Shelton
was shot through the body twice, and
would die. One of the Stanleys bail
