JOHN B. SHAW, THE BOOKS OPENED AND MANY NAMES ENTERED FOR THE BOARD OF TRADE. The Meeting: at the County Court Boom Yesterday—Report of the Committee on Constitution end By-laws—Subscription Books are Opened. “THE CHAMPION” Clothier Outfitter, 117 Forsyth 8f,]Amerlcus, Ga., g prepared to clothe the people of Americug and vicinity; in [fact whole of Southwest Ga. with That is correct in style and|perfect n fit. Every garment is made by the argest New York and other manu- ufacturtrs up to the highest standard of art. No clothing house South of At lanta can boast of such an admirable assortment of MESS, YOUTHS, BOYS & CHILDREN’S SPRING AND SUMMER STYLES. In our line of business we are the recognized leaders, and we propose to continue to carry off the honors, While we possess all the requisites necessary for the success of a lcgiti mate and dashing business, WE HAVE THE LARGEST AND FINEST STORE IN THE CITY. WE HAVE THE LARGEST AND FINEST STOCK IN THE CITY, and wt are known throughout this section as the Our friends and the public know that we have for the last 22 years con ducted a live business in Americus, and we will “win or dio” on the field ui battle harness before we will sur render onr banner on which is written John R. Shaw, Pursuant to the call of Mr. W. E. Murpbey, chairman of the late board of trade meeting held at the opera house, quite a number of citizens assembled at the county court room yesterday af ternoon. Mr. Murpliey again presided, and Mr. Lott Warren, by request, acted as sec rotary. The chair briefly stated the object of the mooting, which was to hear the re port of the special committee of live ap pointed from the first meeting to pre pare a constitution and by-laws for the proposed board of trade. This committee presented, substantial ly, the constitution and by-laws govern ing the board of trade in Columbus, which, after very careful and thorough examination, were considered the best for the government of the Americas board. The question of organization was dis cussed at length, whereupon, owing to the rather small attendance, it was de elded to defer the same until another date when a larger representation of the business men of the city could be had. For the benefit of those present, how ever, the subscription books were opened, and quite a number of shares of the stock were taken. The committee, In their report, suggested putting these shares at ten dollars each, and further more that the capital stock be made *1000, with the privilege of increasing the samo to any amount not to exceed *10,000. Upon motion the chair was author ized to appoint another committee of five to call upon the merchants and bus iness men generally, explain fully the object of the proposed organization and solicit subscriptions of stock. This committee will probably be selected to-day. It was the sense of the meeting that so soon as this committee had made a thorough canvass of the city that anoth or meeting of the subscribers be held, when temporary organization would bo effected and application made for charter. There being no further business the meeting adjourned, subject to the call of the chair. There Is little doubt now as to the ul tlmate success of the proposed organiz ation. The need of the city for a board of trade is fully appreciated, and now that the opportunity Is presented for se curing it the pcoplo will not be slow to act. Thero is not a city in the south of the size and commercial Importance of Americus that has not its board of trade, and wherever such organizations exist they have been found of unmeas urable benefit to the commercial and material Interests of the town. Ameri cus is now ripo for such a move and will take it. They Return Thinks.
