Two negroes were thrown out of a
wagon on Lee atreet and badly bruised.
One of them had an arm dislocated.
More than one beautiful basket of
flowers will bo prepared in Americus
this week and sent off to the young
ladies who are so ably representing this
city at the different colleges of the
country.,
From what could be learned yester
day it seems that the recent rains have
been geeeral throughout the county.
Ton should not forgot this when you are
giving your thanks and making your
petitions to-day.
Parties who came In from Columbus
yesterday report that tho farmers along
the railroad, between that place and
Americus, are badly In need of rain. No
rain bas fallen in some localities along
that road in well nlgb nine weeks.
Whiskey dealers report a good bual-
nesa yesterday. The consumers man
aged to keep It under their shirte pretty
well, however, and the day was a very
quiet one with the police, only a few ar
rests being made. No case of any im
portance waa made.
There will be no morning service at
the Second Methodist church to-day.
Sunday school will be held at 4 o’clock
this aftsrnoon, as usual. At b o’clock
to-night there will be preaching by Dr.
J. J. Boring. Everybody la cordially In
vited to attend these services.
A speelsl coach will be provided for
the whites who want to go on the excur
sion to Omaha, June 20. 'A rate of $1
for the round trip and the prospects of
a day pleasantly spent in the beautiful
woqdt about this thriving place, will no
doubt prove an attraction to a large
crowd.
The churches in Americus, thanks to
to the foresight of the builders, are well
ventilated and no one need remain at
hpmo to-day because of the beat There
are reasons for believing that parties
who make such a flimsy excuse had best
he preparing for a heated term while
they have the opportunity.

Tliey Have Finished Their Work.
The pupils of the graduating class
have completed the school work re
quired of them. During the hist week
they stood their Anal examinations on
the studies of their departments
The geometry examination, especially,
waa remarkably good, qulto a number in
the class making 100 in that study.
Both teachers and pupils are now work
lng in great earnest and getting ready
for the Anal day, the 12th Instant, when
a good treat Is In store for those that
will attend the exhibition.
Knights of Pythias.
Geo. F. Cooper Lodgo No. 43 having
fitted up and moved into their handsome
hall over Sullivan’s jewelry store have
changed their night' of meeting from
Monday to Thursday night, commencing
next Thursday night 11th. All Knights

Officers Nominated.
At the last meeting ot the Amerlous
Light Infantry, Sergeant J. E. Mathis
was nominated for second junior lieu
tenant and Mr. Linn Fort was named to
make the race for orderly sorgeaaL The
eleetion will probably be held at the
next meeting of the company. That is
merely a matter of form, however, for
the nomination means an election.
Both these gentlemen are well quali
fied for the positions given them. Indeed
it Is doubtful if the company could have
possibly done any better.

To Klchland the Cry.
On to Richland is the watchword with
the Masons just now. June 28, St John’s
day, will be celebrated In that city by a
meeting of much interest to Masons a big
barbecue and some good speaking. Hon,
J. S. Davidson, grand master of Geor
gia, will bo there to make an address, as
will other well known Masons.
The Savannah, Americus and Mont
gomery will sell tickets for sixty cents
for the round trip, and a large crowd
will no doubt go from here to enjoy the
pleasures of the occasion.
