AJ? - Q THE AMERICUS DAILY TlMESrRECORDERc SATURDAY, JUNE 13, 1891. PAVEMENT PRATTLERS UNBURDEN themselves to a TIMES-RECORDER REPORTER Who rise* Tbslr Sayings Into Tithy Pars- graph* of Local Interest—Caught an th* FI; and Served a la Salamagundl-A Day In America*. Americas will send a Urge delegation to the Masonic celebration at Tifton on June 18. '“An effort Is being made to establish a branch of the order of the Mystic Shrine fa Americus. There is some talk of a picnic to l>e given to the graduating class of the Jackson street school and tbeir friends next week. well known Atlanta merchant came to Amerloua yesterday and bor- roweda gum of money which be could not get in Atlanta. Dog poisoners aro getting in tbeir work fa Amerieus. Five dead dogs were found in the southern part of the city yesterday morning. Ellen Williams, a negro woman from Schley county, was thrown from a buggy | on Cotton avenue, by a runaway horse - yesterday and one of her arms was broken. Fred Walker, a young white boy, chopped two toes off of bis left foot yes terday, while playing with an ails, which bis father bad left at home dur ing the afternoon, Sol Clarke, the colored train hand on a Southwestern freight which passed through Americus yesterday, bound south, had his hand badly mangled while coupling cars at Montezuma. The bridge across Muckaleo will bo in good shape at an early hour this morn ■i log and parties coming that way into the olty by private conveyance will not be defayed any on account of it From parties who were dosrn from Anderson rille yesterday Tits Timks-IIe- cokdrk learned that the work of im proving the stockado grounds is pro- gresaing satisfactorily to those who • • hare it In charge. A game of baseball between Americus and Richland, to be played on tho grounds of the former club, in this city, is being arranged. If it is played the game bids fair to be one that will be of Interaet to Americus lovers of ball. The first of the currency of the First Rational Batik of Cordele was seen fa Americus yesterday. The bills were j fresh and crisp, and the well known sig natures of the officers of that hank ' showed np on them In great shape. , jk gentleman who lives In Cordele was struck by a bullet from an Alabama - -sling while on his way from the 8., A. A M. depot to the business portion of Americus yesterday. These things are nuisances of a dangerous character. Mr. Lewie A. Smith yesterday exhib ited several large and luscious ripe peaches which grew fa his orchard near the city. These peaches were thorough ly ripe and vei7 juley, being far supe rior to those shipped here from Florida. I’e fores fa Americus does to be much disturbed recent changes . in the tion of the road's oiiioers. I seem to think themselves in any danger of being hit by the removal lightning. Nothing bos been heard as yet of the couple which Bailiff Greer, of Blrming- . bam, was looking tor In Americus '.fljbursday. Jtfsnow thought that the tbaple went .direct to Savannah from ttblumbna and that they are headed to ward New York. A gentleman who was here from Cor dele yesterday informed a Tikes-ltx- coedkb reporter that the semi-weekly Cordelean had been suspended until faU, when It will appear as a dally. This la another forward step for the “Magic City of the Pines." Amerious is safe from the ravages of an loe famine which la Invading several Georgia cities. The two large capacity factories here supply enough to DU the lecal demand and furnish many neigh boring towns and cities. Americus ships Ice to Eufauta right along, these days. The Albany base ball club passed afaMpgh)Americus fast nlgbt on their return from Oglethorpe and Montezuma, where they played yesterday. They 'won a game and lost one. At Ogle- thqq* the score stood:. Albany 3, Oglethorpe 0. At Montezuma the score as: Montezuma 10, Albany 6. Another of those delightfully pleasant lawn festivals was given by the Christian Workers ow the beautiful lawn In the Methodist church yard yesterday after noon. Elegant loss are served on these occasions and the fesUvals, which are held every Friday afternoon are becom ing decidedly popular. The receipts yesterday were quite gratifying. The Final Examinations. 3 be McCoy mil public school had its final examinations yesterday. A larger number of parents and friends of the school were out than usual, showing an increasing interest in the school. But tho principal thinks there is too little visiting by the parents during tbe term. From yesterday’s work one would con clude that teachers and pupils bavo done their work well. There were two features to the examinations that de serve special mention. The fancy patch- work done by Mrs. Phillips’ class of girls, under her supervision, after regu lar school hours, reliecta much credit on the teacher and pupils. This is the second class A. Mrs. Catiedge's class has among them a regularly organized literary society which, every Friday afternoon, had a programme, prepared by themselves, consisting of songs, recitations, debate essays, etc. For this occasion they had a special programme which they went through very creditably. Tills is the third grade. Americus has no need to be ashamed of her colored schools and she certainly docs well by them. Their concert exercises will be held tho opera house Monday night. w^\Y\\\VAWYvV..
