SHAW, Hen’s, Youths,’ Boys’ and Children’s lia Forsyth St„ •'<< AMERICUS, Several bushels of peaches which were raised in Sumter county were brought to Amerlcns and sold yesterday. The old reliable Amertcus Ice Compa ny furnishes all the Ice used by the Southwestern road. That speaks well for that concern and for Amerlcns. The talk of organizing a gun club here is being revived. There is some good material here for such a club, aud Ameri cas could put a winning team in the field. While trying to master the mysteries of hycicle riding yesterday, young Em mett Holland bad his right arm dislo cated and sustained other painful bruises. A large delegation of alliancemcn will come from Urooks ami Lowndes county to attend the grand alliance rally in Americus. They have already writ* ten for quarters while here. One who is well posted on things re lating to tile building t liat is going on in Americus yesterday informed a reporter that work has been commenced on a dozen buildings in Americus duriug the last twelve days. An out house on the place of Mr. F, W. Arnold, near Americas, was con sumed by Are Tuesday night. It was only by the most heroic work that the gentloman's dwelling house was saved from being consumed. One croaker can puli down in a day that which it takes active, energetic, enterprising men a year to talk and build Up. There nro few croakers In Americus, and that is the secret of the city’s wonderful prosperity. One of the busiest places in Americus is tlie funiture factory. A reporter was informed yesterday that this concern will declare a handsome dividend at the next ann'ial meeting of its directors. Some splendid work is being done there. It is said that owing to one of those misunderstandings which causes the course of true love not to rnn smooth, that double wedding has been declared off. One of the sisters will marry but the other will cling to singlo blessedness awhile longer. Several real estate deals are on tapis which, tf consummated, will havo the effect of driving away all thoughts of anything akin to inactivity in that lino. Deep waters run quietly, significantly re marked the gentleman who liaa tlieie deals In hand. Recently Americus’ military enthusi asm haa broken out afresh, and there Is now quite an undercurrent of sentiment here la favor of the Americus Light In fantry preparing a drill team to be entered at the military contest of the Augusta exposition. From advloes received yesterday It was ascertained that tho boys of the Americus Light Infantry reached C'blck- amauga right side up with care and that they have settled down to camp life In good ahape. Their trip haa been with out special Incident so far. A gentleman who was passing through Magnolia dell yeiterday flushed a covey of negro gamblers. The birds made flight, but some of them were recog nized and their arrest will probably fol low, They left their cards and the money for which they were playing. Considerable of the material that Is to be used In putting the plate glass and iron front in the building which will bo occupied by the Americus Jewelry Com pany has been received. When the im provements on It are completed this will be one of the handsomest buildings In Americus. From a gentleman who saw tho darky a reporter learned yeiterday that the negro who was shot at Leslie Saturday is not dead The ball entered his chin, ranged downward and around the neck and is imbeded somewhere in the back of the neck. With such a wound it Is wonderful that lie didn’t die, but ho Is still alive. Tlie negro who did the shooting has not been caught yet. Veaterday Mr. Luther 0. Bell, who has been for so many years connected with Thornton Wheatley's clothing and gents furnishing goods store, severed his connection with tl-at establishment, lie will leave In a few days for Trenton, N.
