At an early hour yesterday morning

a mad dog. Some eight or ten shots

nounced that the justice court for this
district convenes on the second Tuesday
in every month. Parties must file all

Litigants and lawyers can do well by
governing themselves accordingly.
Georgo Parker, colored, was before
Justice Oliver yesterday on a peaco
warrant sworn out by Rlohard Jones,
also oolored, George was turned loose

An Amerlcus lawyer who was at
Chickamauga with the Light Infantry

parading the camp and attending a ball

Yesterday Judge Fort was busy all day
bearing motions. Only the civil side of
the docket was taken up, and nothing of
anypnbllo Importance was done. In
the one criminal case called a plea for a
new trial for Osborn Bollock, convicted
of burglary, was refused. The court
will bo in session again to-day.
A slight sprinkle fell yesterday after
noon and about 8 o’clock last night
there was quite a shower. Boforo the
rain Amerlcus was visited by some wind
and much dust It was reported that
considerable damage was done by wind
and bait in the northwestern portion of
the county. Nothing doflnlte, however,
could be learned.
From the Information slips wlitoh are
posted for the benefit of the growers It
was learned thnt eighty-six cars of mel
ons were handled by the -Central road
yesterday. Something ovor 600 cars
have been handled by that road during
the present season. The Savannah,
Americns A Montgomery road has han
dled a good many cars of melons, also.
Mr. McKay has gotten through with
the year 1880 In hie examination of the
city having audited them from
the beginning to that time. He Is
making every possible moment count,
and thinks he will be ready to report In
a abort while iear. He audited Macon’s
acoouats under the Hoff administration,
Instead of in the matter of the Adams
defalcation, as many seem to think.
The Work Begun.
Yesterday morning ground was broken
for the new gas plant which U to t>e lo
cated just west of the present building
and adjoining tho Central railroad turn
table in front of tho Ico factory. Messrs.
Johnson & Ilarrold havo charge of tho
work tor the company; and the work of
laying brick will begin as soon as the
ground Is prepared.
The biiil.ling will bo 87 by 30 foot,
and will be ample for all necessary pur
poses for some years.
The present gas works will be convert
ed to the use of the electric plant,
which will also he enlarged to moet the
growing business of tho city.
Work will he pushed right along on
the now gas plant, as the contract calls
for Its completion by September 1.
Amorlcus will soon have a first-class
plant which wllljw worth tho money in
vested, and will prove of great advantage
to the city as well as a good investment
to tho owners.
