A mad dog was shot and killed in the
northern portion of the city yesterday.
One hundred and sixty-three cars of
watermelons were moved by the Central
road yesterday.
Mayor pro tem, Whoatley, presided
over the Mayor’s court yesterday* in his
usual graceful manner.
The Times-Recobdeb will appear no
more until Monday. The Fourth of
July is the cause of this.
At Its next meeting Mr. J. B. Dunn
will make to the council his report on
the water works accounts.
Last year such a thing as a wood yard
was unknown in Americus. There are
two here now, and another in contem
plation.
The fact that the day falls on Satur
day will interfere with many arrange
ments that had been made for the spend
ing of the Fourth of July.
The evidences in the case against old
man Elbert Head was heard yesterday
before Justice Adderton. Decision in
the matter was reserved until to-day.
Ten cars of bagging and ties were sold
by Americus dealers. When it comes
to giving wholesale prices that are on
the bottom floor, Americus men can’t
be beat.
A negro boy named Sam Kelly broke
his leg In jumping off a Southwestern
freight train yesterday. He had stolen
a ride from some point up the road to
Americus.
Edn. Thomas, colored, has been ar
rested upon a warrant chargingher with
assault and battery upon the person of
her mother. The case will be heard be
fore Justice Oliver Monday.
Having severed his conneotlon with
G. M. Davis <£ Co., Mr. Mitt Edwards is
now with Hawklna <& Loving on Cotton
avenue.. That firm did a good day’s
work when it scoured Mr. Edward's ser
vices.
Mr. U. B. Harrold Is having the spa
cious grounds around his handsome
home terraced and sodded. This will
add much to the beauty of what is al
ready one of the prettiest places in
Americus.
As much as they would like to accom
modate you the banks have all agreed to
observe the legal holiday strictly to-day,
and no business will be transacted. So
there is no need of your bunting up any
of the bank officers.
A free fight occurred near the South
western depot yesterday morning J>e-
tween two negroes. One of them hit the
other in the head with a rook and then
"burned the wind,” as the ubiquitous
small boy would say.
What becomes of the sewing maohines
Is a question that is often asked- Many

Two gentlemen who boast of their fast
horses had an improptu race in the

Some handsome railing passed
through Americus yesterday for the
Bank of Stewart, at Lumpkin. That In
stitution will probably begin business

Mardre of this city, will be cashier.
When the Southweitern *paa»enger
train atopped In this city yeaterday a
cripple woman who was walking up and
down the aisles was thrown to the floor.
All who saw tho accident say that the
blame in the matter attaches to the wo
man herself.
On July 1 Mr. J. W. Wells began his
connection with Johnson & Harrold,
whore ho will be pleased to have bis
many friends call on him. There is
probably no man in Sumter county who
Is more widely known, or has more
friends than Mr. Wells.
Contractor Smith says that unless
something entirely unexpected and un
heard of happens to prevent, the Hotel
Alhambra will be flniahed by the time
named in the contract—September 1—
if the men have to work day and night
to accomplish that end. ,
A large crowd of negroes will go to
Coney to-day. The crowd will be larger
than was at flrat anticipated. The

Despite reporta to the contrary, it
does not seem that the decapitation of
Central railroad officials has yet oloaed.

employees have been displaced:
H. C. Morgan, of Savannah, superin
tendent of the terminal.
T. S. Molae, of Savannah, superintend
ent of the Tybee railroad.
L. C. Young, of Macon, supervisor of
passenger trains.
G. B. Wheeler, supervisor of freight
trains. . ,,
Some of the railroad officials on the
Southwestern division are getting anx
ious about their scalpa. The lodol men
aver, however, that they are in no way
uneasy.
