LIVINGSTON WINS i A VICTORY IN THE WAY OF SUMTER’S ENDORSEMENT Which Was Given at the County Alliance Meeting Veeterdey-Mr. D. C. N. Bnrk- b alter Elected Preddent—Ma|. Wilton Mamed (or a High Petition. Ad Important meeting of the count; alliance of Sumter county was held at the court house yesterday. The meeting was largely attended, every single per son who had a right to be there being present. As a consequence the county court room was full. The meeting was a great victory for Livingston and a defeat for Northern While nothing definite could be learned v It was said to a reporter that parties who had promised the county to Northen had hoped and indeed had worked to have the meeting endorse that gentle man. But the aliiancemen have beads and ideas of their own and they pro ceeded to pass by a rousing majority resolutions endorsing Col. Livingston and naming him as the county’s choice for the presidency of the state alliance to succeed himself. These resolutions wore of a ringing tone and are quite complimentary to Col. Livingston, for no better assembly of men was ever con gregatedin Sumter county than that which passed the resolutions. The reporter was informed, that reso lutions were passed scoring Governor Northen quite heavily. An allianeeman who was in a position to know denied that, adding significantly: "He is too dead for us to think of res urrecting him now.” By a unanimous vote the meeting paid a high and deserved compliment to Maj, W. A. Wilson by endorsing him and nom. lnatlnghim for the vice-presidency of the state alliance. Maj. Wilson is an on tbnslastio allianeeman, a faithful and earnest worker. Ho would make an officer well fitted for the first lieutenant of CoL Livingston, and the Aliiancemen of all South Georgia will he glad to have him elected. These officers were elected for the County alliance: D. C. N. Burkbalter, president, N. A. Ray, vice-president, J. A. Wilson, secre tary, J. F. Easterlin, treasurer, W. A. Wilson, lecturer, J. H. Rogers, assist ant lecturer. . This was anothbr Livingston victory, Hr. Bnrkhalter making his race squarely on that line. The officers chosen are all good and well known men. By outsiders the election of Ur. Burkbalter is con sidered as speclslly apt. He is an nl- llancempn in the strictest sense of the word and will do all he can for the order, at the same time he is not so carried away by Ms alliance proclivities as to totally disgregard the rights of others and go blindly into any movement that is not fair and considerate. He is a fair man, and will do much to draw closer together the ranks of the alliance and non-alllancemen which, happily to state are already drawing nearer each other. Tux Tms-QxcoBDiB predicts that Hr. Bnrkhalter will make a model president. This committee was appointed to make arrangements for the grand al- liance rally which will be held in Ameri cas July 14. D. 0. N, Burkbalter, chairman; G. -W. HeN.ll, W. A.’:Seals, W. C. DoLoach, W, A. Wilson,. J. G. Feagin, J. H, Rogers, R, S. Smoot, J. H. Daniel, J. T. Howell, G. A. Harper, J. A. Wilson and J. U. Feagin. This com mittee will meet Tuesday to decide on a plan for the day. President Polk, Col. Livings ton, Sockless Jerry Simpson, Senator Peffer and Hrs. Lease will be among the speak ers of'the day, as will Harry Brown, Larry Gaunt and other local alliance lu minaries. From the reports that have been re ceived Americus will have more visitors that day than she has ever had before. . A gentleman who is well posted in al liance matters was asked if the meeting did anything in regard to the third par ty. His answer, no doubt, is a good in dication of the sentiments of alt the’al- Uaneemen in Sumter county. He said: “We are democrats." THEY COME AND GO. Notice!
