Rkcoedkb:—We, that it to ■ay, three ladles and three gentlemen, decided to brave the perils of the “deep blue sea” (but tho sea Is green), voyage to New York, and thereby escape the dust and heat of summer travel by rail. We had a delightful time, barring the enforced tribute to old Neptune, while none of the party would have flat tered him for hla trident. Yet perforce with wry faces and one aoeord they bowed to hie power. And here comes up the oft repeated question, what is that makes one see siek? Is it the salt water, or the motion of the vessel? If it was the motion of the vessel, then why a tfans flsj.fi not the motion of cars make one sick? fllW 18*f ■ If salt water, wly does It not make one sick when bathmg on the sea shore? is claimed by the knowing ones that it ia caused by the absence of rest for the eye, The eye, like Noah’s dove that “found no rest for the sole of her foot” We know of a fact, “to the faint-hearted who go down to sea in ships, there sorrow on the sea, it cannot be quiet whose waters cast up mire and dirt' There is a fortune in store for the man who discovers a preventive for sea sick ness. The third day out on our voyage,- as the sun went down behind the Jersey flats, and sweet musio was wafted us npon the umblent air from the shore, we forgot our sorrows of the sea in the beautiful vision that met our gaze, at the lower and upper bay, and the level lands, and the entrance into the city il lumined by thousands of lights on sea and land. It was said and believed by many in 1800, that grass would grow in the streets of New York City, and it would be given over to the owls and bate for an habitation, when the South seceded from the union. But- a greater calamity ia upon the city now than se cession. The agitation of the silver bill has done more harm than secession and money has gone Into hiding like the fid dlers upon the beach, Innumerable aa the leaves ;of Vallombros, upon the least disturbance are gone into their holes, and pulled their holes in after thorn, leaving not a vestige behind. So has money gone Into the safe deposits of New York to remain until the tinkering on finances by the solons is over. The words “to let” that stares you in the face from every block, and nearly every in every block in the city, with now and then the legend, “This house is closed by the Sheriff,” telle the tale more potently than the lamentations of Jeremiah to the ancient Jews, In my judgement it Is not more silver that we want, for we have more silver now than the people willingly take,' but a silver dollar that Is equal in value to the gold dollar. Either put more silver in the silver dollar or put leas gold in tin gold dollar. “If the iron be blunt ai be do not whet the edge, then must he put to more strength." It la hardly fair to ask the creditor to take eighty cento In the dollar when you are able to pay him in fnlL bet us be just, though the]} ———i — Mr. Borkhaltor May Keep on Hls Hat. To Tn Times-Bxcobdxh : In your yesterday’s issue appeared a communi cation whleh explains everything ex- eept the easily flattered vanity of Its author. No one bnt Mr. Burk halter ever (op posed that Tux Times-Recorder or any one else but Ifr. Burkhalter him self thought I* this instance, as be so correctly quotes It, that “the wish has been made the father to the thought" Everybody but Mr. Burkhalter under stood the “prophecy” in Thursday’s paper as a joke. As the matter was a mere passing joke, Munchansenism to fill a stick of type, there was of course “no reason from analogy” or any serious reasons at all for The Times-Recordkb to make its prediction in reference to senatorial honors grasping Mr. Bnrkhalter by the collar, and choking him into fame and immortality. If The Times-Recorder had rea soned at ail about this matter, it would not, as Mr. Burkhalter intimates, have done so by “analogy." It occurs to us that there is a Vast deal of difference be tween being president of a local branch of a secret order and that of being a momber of the Georgia, legislature; where are guaranteed by our constitu tion “equal rigato to all and special privileges to none." If the prophet of The Times-Kecor- DEn will DOW, in the light of Mr. Burk- haltor’s very funny card, revise hls pre dictions, we opine that the measure of Mr. Burkhalter’s aspirations will be more correctly gauged it the prophet elevates him to the gubernatorial chair or throws around his manly form the senatorial toga.
