THE NAME- Yeaterday’a Constitution contained the following which will be of more than passing interest to the people of Americus, the third district and south west Georgia, where Judge Crisp is best known and most honored and beloved. It is gloriously gratifying news: New Yobk.N. Y. July 12 —[Special.]— Judge Crisp left for home last evening. lie has been in New York a week. In that time ho has captured the congres sional delegation. He made himself a favorite with the entire democratic party in the state. The Tammany lead ers have announced that they are for him for speaker, and all New York dem ocratic congressmen, with two excep tions, have done likewise. There are twenty-three democratic congressmen from this state. Twenty- one of them will certainly vote for Crisp, perhaps ail will. This means that the Georgian will bo Tom lieed's successor, for ho lias the south Atlantic and Gulf states almost solid, and a large majority of votes of the middle states, while ho will get his share of the wes tern votes. Indeed, everything now points to the eloctlon of Crisp on the first ballot. Both Mills’ and McMIiiin’sfrlands pri vately concede this. One of Mr. Mills's most intimate friends tells me that he will probably bo withdrawn from the race within a few weeks. While others decry this, there is every reason to be lieve It true. McMillin banked on get ting New York. Now that he finds he cannot, bis friends have practically no hope. While McMillin and HflU have always been considered close friends, the Tennesseean is a great admirer of Crisp, and the chances are that his vote will go to the Georgian. Mills would like to see Holman, of Indiana, speaker, but that is out of the question, and per haps he will attempt to throw his strength to Bynum, on acoount of the personal friendship that exists between them. But with Mills out his strength will go largely to Crisp. Indood his own dele gation from Texas will go to Crisp In preference to any other candidate. This the way New York and New Eng land members figure It out. Crisp is to get all this eastern vote. The membors about hero say bis election is assured. James W. Lancaster, Hawkinsville, Ga., writes: “My wife was in bad health for eight years. Five doctors and as many moro different patent raedicinea had done her no good. Six bottles of B. B. B. has cured her , 0-10-lm-eod How About It, HanryT A popular dry goods merchant Is au thority for the statement that Henry Anderson, the barber, thinks of nothing but Infernal nonsense from morn till night, and tells with zest the following joke perpetrated on Henry yesterday: The gentleman went to get shaved, and aa usual found the chop empty and Henry holding high carnival with horde of admiring friends on the aide- walk. After calling for a shave more than onoe In vain, be noticed 20 cents lying In front of Henry’s ohalr, which he quietly transferred to his vest pocket. Presently Henry came in and began preparing to shave, when his customer casually remarked that he was willing to set up n watermelon to the crowd provided a nice one could be had for 15 or 20 cents. Immediately Henry skipped out and brought in two melons, one at 15 cents and the other at 20 cents. The gentleman chose the latter, and hand' ing Henry tho 20 cents be had picked up only a moment before, began to eat half the melon, while Henry sang bis praises with the crowd who ate the oth er Laif. After obtaining a pleasant share the merchant returned to his store and sent his porter to witness tho storm which bo knew was sure to break forth. This article will explain what became of the missing 20 cents and will probably put Henry and Home on speaking terms again, while Dave is expected to return to Ids chair this morning. Its future progress will be stubbornly contested and resisted, but wo will assuredly and gloriously tri umph, if wo be cautious, prudent, faith ful and firm. The outlook for the suc cess of the great reforms we advocate was never so hopeful and encouraging as now. Tho order throughout the country is dally adding to Its numbers, and It is in finer spirit and is more thoroughly united than evor before. Blit the pecu liar conditions confronting us demand the utmost caution, lest we commit er rors, which might prove fatal to our cause. The action of our state alliance and of the supreme council, in their forthcoming annual meetings, will be universally regarded with earnest inter est, and the character of that action do- pends largely upon the wisdom of the subordinate bodies. The sub-alliances are to select mem bers as delegates to the county alliances, whleh are to choose delegates to the state alliance, which in turn is to seleot delegates to the supreme council. In view of the great and lmportan work to be done during tbe next alliance year, and which must necessarily be largely directed by the state bodies and the supreme council, the brotherhood Is earnestly admonished to exercise great care in selecting the.men to whom must be entrusted the responsibility of guid ing our oourse as an order. Let those who are to legislate for us, In.the state alliances and In the supreme council, be not only oar ablest and wis est men, but their loyalty to our Cause be without taint or tarnish. Put none but true and faithful alliance- men on guard in this hour of our great need, and all will be well. L. L. Polk, Pres. N. F. A. and L U. Washington, D. C., July 3,1801.
