IDtlcb It Hauls From Albany to .Savannah —What the First Bale and the Attendant Events Mean—Details About the Early Bar—It Is Significant. The first bale of cotton of the cro j of , 91-’92 has gone forward. Aracricus’ own road, the Savannah, Americas A Montgomery, hurried it on to its destination. The bale was marketed in Albany, which has been the first bale town for many years and although Col. Primus Jones, tho “first bale man," is dead, the reputation of Albany is maintained. Last season’s first bale was marketed on the Fourth of July. This year it was marketed July 17—thirteen days late. This is the first bale of the season. Considerable eclat attac lies to the DASTARDLY IS THE DEED. road that handles the bale. That the S., A. A M. should get it is significant A Negro Men Outrageously Assaulted Thirteen Year Old Girl. Lewis Fuller, colored, is wanted by the officers on a serious charge. Fuller works on Mr. George W. Coun cil’* place. So does Meta Henderson. The one is a well known grown negio of 19, the other a young girl of 1J. Yes terday morning the girl’s mother sent her to the spring, about a quarter of a mile from she bouse, after some water. Fuller saw her and hailed her, but she didn't notice him and went on. He caught up with her and m .de his devil ish demand. She was frightened and started to scream. A strong hand was laid over her mouth and the call for help throttled. Then Fuller dealt the girl a blow over the bead and knocked her down, when he committed the unnama- e crime. A warrant was sworn out before Judge ,on * | Pilsbury charging Fuller with rape, and a ^’I he will have to answer for his devils for Infant* and Children. t teas well s' j. ;chfldrert*»at I . ks*« acui f tolls S-^etlpetlcn. t it aa super jrJC tj prescription I *>ur fa. A hurrah for the S., A. & M. and the first bale might not be amiss, even if it is Sunday.' Mr. E. N\ Clark, tho S„ A. & M. llcitlng agent at Albany secured the shipment This telegram from him tell* the whole story: ALBA3VT, (Ja., July IS.—E. 8. Goodman, G. F. A., Amerlcus—The first bale of cotton for the season of ’•l-’02 was brought to this mar kstbyH. H. Savage yesterday. It sold at auction this morning to Carter A Woolfolk for 91*2 cents. Will be shipped to Robert Moore A Co., New York, via the 8., A. A M. route. Have promised to get it off on Mon day’s steamer from Savannah. Please see that it gets to Savannah in time. Will go on No. 12 this afternoon. E. N. Clark. All possible dispatch was given the bale, which was moved from Albany to Cordele on the A., F. & N., which was recently leased by the S. f A. & M. f thence over thq S. A. M. route to Savan nah. By the time this is in print the bale will be in Savannah. It will be im mediately transferred to the steamer, which is to carry it to New York, and when that vessel steams out of Savannah it will have aboard the first of cotton of the new season. The S. A. & M. made splendid time with the bale to Savannah, the very engine seeming to snort and liven up its speed, inspired by the freight which it was pulling. Cotton season means the money sea son in this country and it Is of things that are pleasant that the first bale is a harbinger. Mutely but In tones that are clearly understood it tells of a season of bustle and business, and tbe first bale is always heartily welcomed. Getting to haul the bale was quite a victory for the S., A. A M. and the wish of all in Amerlcus will be that it may haul thousands upon thousands more, which it undoubtedly will. deed. The girl was fearfully hurt, and she of ‘ CAstoria* la so universal and it* merits so well known that it seems a work of supererogation to endorse It. Few are the intelligent families who do not keep Castoria within easy reach.” Carlos Harttv, D.D., New York City.
