THE AMERICAS DAILY TIMES-BECOBDKR: SATURDAY, AUGUST 1, 1891.
It disojyiears
—the worst forms of catarrh, wit a
the use of I)r. Safe's Catarrh Item-
cdy. It's mihl, soothing, ch-ansing
and healing properties effect a per
fect and pennanent cure, no matter
how had the case, or of how long
standing. It’s a remedy that suc
ceeds where everything else has
failed. Thousands of such cases
can he pointed out. That’s the
reason its proprietors hack their
faith in it with money. They offer
$500 reward for a case of catarrh
which they cannot cure. It's a
medicine that allows them to take
such a risk. Doesn’t common sense
lead you to take such a medicine?
“An advertising fake,” you say.
Funny, isn’t it, how some people
prefer sickness to health when the
remedy is positive and the guaran
tee absolute.
Wise men don’t put money hack
of “fakes.”
And “ faking ” doesn’t pay.

No Obstruct ire Wire* In Paris.
It should i»o noted that the question
how to dispose of wires—a question that
makes so vast and so continually recur
ring an notation in all American cities
never comes up at all in Paris, and is
seldom mentioned in any European city.
There are absolutely no obstructive wires
in Paris. The government has purchased
tho telephone as well as the telegraph
system, and all the wire* for these ser-
vices are placed in the subways of
sewers The wires of the electric com-
panics are buried under the sidewalks.
Armored cables are laid ill simple con
duits, or even in the hare soil, without
the slightest difficulty from any imint o(
l„ crossing streets it is forbidden to
break the paving, and undejpromid i
ncetion is made from the manholes of
* the sewers. The whole city of Paris will
i have ls-on laid with a network of elec
tric lighting cables a few months hence,
and traffic on the sidewalks and in the
streets will have suffered a minimum of
obstruction, while no injury whatsoever
will have lieen done to pavements. All
these minor question* of practical mu
nicipal engineering that we in our cities
arc attacking in a fumbling, rude, orig
inal way, heedless even of the experience
Sf our n-an-st neighbors, while densely
and contentedly ignorant of tho experi
ence of foreign cities, have been thor
oughly solved in Europe.—Dr. Albert
Shaw in Century.

Clerk I!ird in tho orphans’ court yes
terday granted marriage licenses to two
pretty girls, who are sisters and who are
going to marry two brothers. Tile par
ties are Amelia Lonisa Wilke, aged nine
teen, who wilj wed John Souiershoe,
aged twenty-five. This couple are resi
dents of (Jlney. The other pair tiro Ag
nes Theresa Wilke, aged seventeen, who
will liecomo the wife of Alexander
Somershoo, aged twenty-six, a resident
of Franklinville. The young ladies were
accompanied by tlioir mother, who, with
a beaming smilo on her countenance at
the prosjiectivo happiness of her chil
dren, gave her consent to the coming
nuptials.
The clerk said that tho nearest ap
proach to an incident of this kind was
some time ago, when a man came in and
got a license and shortly afterward
another man came in giving exactly the
same tiaino and getting a license to
marry a woman of nearly tho same name
as the other. Mr. Bird asked a few
questions mid discovered that the appli
cants wero father and son, and that
neither of them hud been aware that
they wero courting sisters until they
fonnd it out ut tho license office.—Phil

After the Jewelers.
Captain Porter’s determination to treat
as counterfeit money nil money that is
gilded and inado into scarf pins or any
kind of ornament has roused tho iro of
jowclers generally. Soveral dealers
called at the secret servico offico and
protested ngainst Captain Porter’s strict
interpretation of the law, and the editor
of a journal devoted to the interests of
tho trado gavo him n scoring. Cuptain
Porter said his views had not changed n
particle, and he straightway swore onto
warrant for tho nrrest of Charles Ivorup.
Korup has a place at 345 Clark street,
nnd ho was caught with some gilded
nickels in his |>osscssion the edges of
which were milled. Korup was held in
$500 bail by Commissioner Hoyne.
Captain Porter says he will continue to

goods in their possession.—Chicago Trib

In making the excavations for tho now
Trinity Lutheran chapel, on North Sixth
street, beyond Washington, it became
neceasary to remove tho remains in sev
eral of the graves in tho old edmetery.
In, one of tho graves, which had been
thero seventy-four years, a perfect skele
ton was found, under the head of which
was a razor, tho liandlo of which hod
rotted off. In tho early days of the
dentury It was customnry to bury with
the body tho razor which deceased had
used during life. Tho skeleton was in
a good stato of preservation. Tho con
tents of tho other graves simply consist
ed of a little dust. Among tho old graves
is that of General Francis -Swain, who
was in tho revolutionary war and who
died in 1880.—Reading Telegraph.
Climbing Mount flood.
It is about time that parties were be
ing matlo up for excursions to Mount
flood. It used to be a regular thing for
parties to bo made up to climb that
mountain about this time of year, the
mouth of July being generally consid
ered the most favorable month for mak
ing the ascent. For some reason such
parties arc not so common of late. Since
parties spent the night on the mountain
and burned red Are there on the evening
of July 4, the ascent of the mountain is
not looked upon as much of a feat.—
