Alex. Robert Chisolm* Beauregard's Ald-
de-Camp, Gives Bis Vorslou.
One Howard Thomas ha* been giving
the press of the north a “fairy story”
relative to the aobriqnet of Stonewall
Jackson. Mr. Thomas is away off of the
truth. Here are the facts, as told by an
eye-witness, Alex. Robert Chisolm, who
was an aid-de-camp to General Deaure
gard on that memorable battle field, the
first Bull Run:
General Beauregard bad concentrated
the troops under his command along
the lino of Bull Run, with his centre
resting on Mitchell’s Ford, his right on
Union Mill’s Ford, and his left near the
Stone Bridge, Blaokburn's Ford being
about 100 yards to tbe right of Mitchell’s
Ford. Gen. Jackson, upon bis arrival,
was stationed In the rear of that ford.
Early In the morning of July 21, 1802, I
was ordered by Beauregard, whose aid-
de-camp I was, with the rank of lieu
tenant-colonel, to conduct Gen.
Jackson, with his command, to the
vicinity of the Lewis House, to the rear
of the Stone Bridge. Beauregard antici
pated a movement to turn his left flank,
and had so Informed mo several days be
fore the battle. Evans, Wheat, and Bee
were driven back by McDowell’s ad
vance. Bee was endeavoring to reform
his line near the Ilcnry House as Jack-
son came upon the field with his com
mand in perfect order in lino of battle.
Bee, riding among ills men, appealed to
them to reform their lines, exclaiming:
There stands Gen. Jackson like a
stone wall behind you.”
Tlio lino was reformed. Evans,
Wheat, Bee, Bartow, Hampton, and
Jackson then made the famous charge
upon the plateau at the Henry House,
which turned the tide of the battle. A
shell exploded under Beauregard's
horse, disemboweling him. Bee and
Bartow were killed; Hampton, Wheat
and Jackson wounded, the lattor very
slightly. From that date Gen. Jackson
was known as Stonewall Jackson.

Got off at the Wrong Place.
Dr. J. F. McMath came down from
Americus one night last week, and as
usual his mind was absorbed in some
grave subject.
When the train neared Sumtor City,
three miles above here, it blowed, and in
a few minutes stopped. Tho doctor
thought it was Smlthvllle, and got off.
Tho train stops only a few seconds at
that station, and before he discovered
his mistake tho train moved off. Tho
doctor was “In it,” and he thought the
only way out of it was to foot it borne.
This he proceeded to do, and In less
than an hour was safely at homo “right
side up, handle with care.”
And now the “boys” say the Americus
article must have been monkeyed with.
