THE AMERICUS DAILY TIMES-RECORDER: THURSDAY, AUGUST 20, 1891. 5 Shoes for Young! Shoes for Old! Shoes for Rich! Shoes for Poor! LOOK the list call. > Naming the The Hooke About to Cloee New Hotel. With the following additional sugges tion* as to a suitable name for the new hotel in our city, the books will close, and the matter be left to the decision of the board of directors: AT YOUR SHOES! ii t Hew Fxlr ? -the- Great American tagle’ SHOE STORE, 119 Forsvth St. Hasju't what you want. If you want to know what we moan by a SWEEPING Reduc tion, come to this Tiik Times-Recordeh: I think “The Dixie" would be a very suitable name. E. B. The Times-Recorder: Why not call our new hotel “The Dixie?” Grandma. The Times-Recorder: As the sub ject of naming our inn has become a hoary-headed chestnut to bo Indited in history as a serial to Annie Rooney, it is my Intention to drop a quietus on this modulated state of things by christen ing it‘‘The Alcazar.” Order the sign painted and start 'erup. You “naralsts" may all go home now, I don't need you any longer. P. S.—I have been lioldiug this name in reserve for just such an emergency, and If 'twas numbered, I'd try It on the Louisiana State Lottery. Centipede. The Times-Recoiider: I offer the name of “Hotel Vcndorae" for our now- hotel. I don’t know what it means; but I do know that I stopped at a hotel of this name In New York once, and It beat anything for luxury, civility, and bang-up style I ever struck In this coun try or Europe. If our hotel ever ap proximates “The Vendome" of New Tork, the DeSoto and the Ponce do Leon will have to bo satisfied with sec ond and third places. If you want style and oddity in a name “Tlio Vendome” Is the proper caper. A Tourist. HELLO, POSTOFFICE! The Times-Recohdeh: I suggest The Windsor.” There is something grand In the sound of the name. If a castle, you look for something magnifi cent; If a hotel, something very elegant and luxurious. In short, tho name In dicates something above the ordinary. Our new hotel represents our rapid progress in the last few years, and what could be more appropriate than to give How's This?—Only Fifteen Mile. Away, end s Day Behind Time. What's the matter with the mall ser vice? Is the representative of Uncle Sam at this point overcome by the h»at or by— the water? Listen to this growl, Mr. Mallcarrier: Desoto, cie.. August 19—The Times-Re- cokokr: f have been yetting a paper that was a day old ror more than a week. If you can't send your paper dally, please do not seud It at all. Vours. dlsgusled, •I. A. Williams. Now, that is what might be called tough. Here is a citizen of the thriving boro of DeSoto, only fifteen miles away, shut out from the refulgert light and brilliant scintillations of The Times- Recorder for twenty-foui hours afeer schedule time. No wondei lie is dis gusted. To think of a cash subscriber for The Times-Recohdeh being de prived of bis mental pabulum for an entire day Is Irritating beyond expression. A man might pos sibly put up with h.» wife her relatives missing several trains; but his newspaper, never. The Times-Recohdeh never loses its temper—that is, hardly ever—but It is in order to call the attention of our es teemed postmaster to the little fairy story of tlio wicked boy up a tree and the good farmer. It is well-known bow that wicked boy would not -‘take a drop” on himself by a tuft-of-grass per suasion, and bow bo was forced to “tumble” at last when the pious farmer resorted to the weightier argument of stones. This is only the tuft-of-grass that is (lung to-day. Will our wicked mailboy come downP or shall—but he’ll come down. LOOK OUT FOR BARGAINS Fancy Grocery LINE Aud keep a watch ou this space. A Good One on Troy Holder* One day this week Sheriff Troy Holder of Lumpkin, went over to the Chatta hoochee river to arrest a negro whom he wanted. Arriving there he found his man, who saw the sheriff about as soon as the sheriff saw him. He was sitting in a teut near the river and had just re turned from a fishing trip and had a large lot of fish near where he was sit ting. When he saw Troy he made a rush for the swamp arriving there in safety, but leaving his fish. Troy look- it the name of one of our fellow citizens wbohas done so much to bring our Prosperous condition In my h „ man . H „ at oacc mado hl , mlnd . opinion “The Windsor’ would prove an stooping down he counted out his fish, acceptable name to a large majority of our citizens, and would be a guarantee to the tourist or commercial traveler that Americus had a hotel to be proud of. C. 30 Glean Day Sweep The Times-Recohdeh: Some defunct poet has asked, “Wlmt's in a name?” If tbe spirit of tbe said poet could re visit our planet to-day, be would have more sense than to ask such a foolish question. “What's in a name?" Every thing! Try some names on a hank check, or a note, and in many other ways, and see the difference in names. And this applies to hotels in a marked degree. A scrub name will kill any thing. It is on record that many a traveler has declined to go to a certain good hotel on account of its insignificant name. Thefore let us select a name which indicates what our hotel is going to be—a first- class establishment from basement to roof. I therefore suggest the name “Excelsior.” B. S. Assessment Notice.
