Everybody Iutere.ted In Sanitary Keen-
latlone at thl. Time
At thl* reason of the year every house
holder is responsible to a certain decret
for the health of our city. Unfortunate-
,here is ,0 ° m "oh indilTerence, on
the part of many of our people, as to the
general welfare. As a consequence,
there is much sickness In town, and our
own people are to blame.
It is surprising that sensible people
care so little about the ordinary observ
ances of what goes to insure health and
comfort.
The following, from the Augusta
Chronicle, fits our town exactly:
This is the time of year when streets
and private residences should be kept
scrupulously clean The scavenger force
should look closely after trash piles and
promptly remove every piece of decay
ing fruit or vegetable matter thrown into
the roads or ditches. This is diftl-ult
to do, because during the fruit
season the stuff accumulates
very rapidly. But the heavy
rains and hot suns of August and Sep
tember must not be permitted to breed
disease. We are now entering the sea
son when too mucli attention cannot be
paid to hygiene. Lime your cellars and
sinks, clean out your back lots, cut
down high grass everywhere and spare
no detail necessary for health and clean
liness. Private citizens may in this way
co-operate with the health authorities
in keeping up a good record for our
city.
Exaggerated reports have gone out
about the health of the city. There
have been some cases of fever in town,
but few of them fata]. There has been
nothing approaching an epidemic of any
kind. Our city is as healthy as any city
In this latitude at this season, and with
a proper degree of care on the part of
public authorities and private citizens,
w 'l remain so.
