The finance committee substituted the following report, which was read and adopted : To the Honorable Mayor and City Council We have consulted the city attorney < matter or tax and street railroad, and he gives It as his opinion that the street railroad is not now subj ct to olty tax. J. E. Btvtss, Chairman. A committee, consisting of Aldermen Logan, Bivins and Wheatley, was, on motion of Alderman Davenport,appoint ed to confer with Messrs. Montgomery and Schurapert in regard to the removal of the wooden building on the corner of Lamar and Lee streets. Alderman Wheatley offered the follow ing resolution, which was adopted: Rss <lved, That the present amount charg< ed for retail liquor license is too small; and be it further Resolved, That a special committee, con sisting of three members of the City Council, be appointed to Investigate the feasibility and necessity for an Increased amount to be charged tor the same. Mayor Felder voted against the above resolution. Alderman Wheatley offered the follow ing resolution, which was adopted: Resolved, That If it is found necessary to acate the present building, the Council will do so and accept the rooms tendered by the County Commissioners. Mayor Felder and Alderman Williams voting against the same. Petition of D. S. Harris in regard to sidewalk and street in front of his dwell ing on Lamar street, was referred to street committee. Mayor Felder was excused andretired. Mayor pro tern Wheatley in chair. The following ordinances were taken up, read second time and adopted: An ordinance to repeal sectioi of the code of ordinances of the city of Amerlcus, and In lieu thereof to prescribe by ordinance the time when all tax returns shsll be made, and for other purposes. Section 1. Be it ordained and enacted by the Mayor and City Council of Amerlcus, and It is hereby ordained and enacted by the authority of the same, That from and after the passage of this ordinance section 899 of the code of ordinances of the city of Ameri- cus, which prescribes that the Mayor and City Council of Amerious shu 1 by reHolutlon fix the time within *hlch all tux retur ,s shall be made, and cau«e the clerk und treas urer to give thirty days publIc notice t hereof, be, and the same is hereby .repealed, aud in lieu thereof I* e fot lowing section be enacted: Sec. 2. Belt further enacted and ordained by the authority aforesaid, That from a* d after the passage of this ordinance all tax re turns shall be made between the first dsy of April and the first day of July or each year.
