At New York, while his mother and
two little sisters and a brother were
ont on the street, Beuben Barnett 7
years old, of 83 Ludlow street, climbed
to the roof of the tenement honse in

ward down an air-shaft. He struck a
basement roof five stories below, and
smashed in one side of a glass bulk
head. Reuben was picked np suffering
only from a wound of the scalp. He
was taken to the hospital. His wound
is not a dangerous one.

An Old Man Suicide*.
Mansfield, O., Sept. The death
of A. G. Hedrick, aged 77, an old resi
dent of this city and a California pio
neer, has been announced. The family
at the time said kidney complaint wan
the cause of his demise. It now devel
ops that he committed suicide by satu
rating his clothing with kerosene and
touched off a match himself, inflicting
burns about the head that caused his
