Matters in police circles were quiet as the grave yesterday. The total cotton receipts for Monday and Tuesday wore 504 bales. Xo police court was held yesterday on account of the removal of headquarters. Don’t forget to attend the rally of young democrats at the opera house to night. Business at the court house yesterday was anything but brisk—there was ac tually nothing going on. Business men are expressing them selves as being greatly pleased with trade for the last few days. The Americus Club moved part of its furniture iuto its new quarters iu the Hart building, on Forsyth street yester day. The streets were fairly alive with peo ple yesterday. The ladles especially being out in full force during the fore noon. Don’t forget the meeting to-night at the opera house. Every young demo crat, and old one too, for that matter, is expected. Garnishments are in high favor just now, and creditors are turning accounts over to law, for collection, without auy compunctions. The police feel rather proud of their quarters in the new city hall, but say they part with the old court house with genuine regret. The friends of Joe Duckworth, the rapist, who was lately captured in Flori da, expect to secure bail for him—so they claim—in few days. Improvements are being made about the front entrance to Clark & Hooper’s store on Lamar street; the work being done by the Americas Construction Company. Stetson Hats, Fine Soft Hats of all kinds, Cru^h Hats, Derby Hats, Caps for boys, and the celebrated world- renowned KNOX HATS Trade is brightening up wonder fully. The rise in the marketable price of oar home products—the advent of a new season—the open ing up of a new stock, all this com bined with an untiring energy— an unremitting desire to please— is making itself felt at the Artesian corner. The novelties in china glassware, and lamps are almost bewildering this season. The sample rooms of our best gloss and lamp factories as well os those of the Importing China agencies presented a con stellation of dazzling effects in the most >'i iu r. nnvut tilV.', heir respective lines have ever shown. which are the leading feature of iny hat business. If you want' a nobby Dress Hat that combines flexibility, durability and comfort, take a look at the KNOX HAT You know the old adage “Goods well bought are half sold.” When we buy staples—we look for tho best qualities obtainable—when we buy specialties, we look not alone for quality, but for the effects that the finest fancies and the latest fads demand. In addition to this we always look for the lowest price that factories will give, and the best of it is, we don't stop looking until we get there on all three points—quality, style and price. unpacked orates, barrels and box es, and then with goods marked mid arranged, you will see that . as our city adds one beautiful store after another, there is that same progressive spirit here, improving with improvements—improving on improvements—Butler & Berry’s Artesian comer. Its not much gossip to tell yotr that when this new stock began to come in, it did not find our shelves empty. Here, there and every where you could find a few odd sets of glasses and an odd lot of dishes—a stray lamp or two—the last “trade orphans” left of a once bright lamp family, and we tell you framdy, we don’t like odd lots, we would just os leave mix a few drops of the best black ink in a tub of artesian water, os to mix these odd lots, desirable as they are, with the new lines wo are marking up. Its a question of convenience with ns as much as price—you ought to see these goods.
