TAILOR-FITTING
The cotton receipts yesterday amount
ed to 370 bales at the warehouses.
School begins Monday, and there Is a
lively flutter among the youngsters in
consequence.
A detective from Macon was In Amer-
Icus yesterday, and something may be
heard to drop in a day or two.
Contractor Smith says that when he
gets the finishing ornaments on the
water tower It will look like a light
house.
Testerday's mayor’s court was held for
the first time in the new city hall, and
the number of unlucky people was thir
teen—tlio unlucky number.
For the past few days there havo been
numerous strangers in Americus, but
yesterday thirty-two of them registered
at the Allen House, took their depart
ure.
It is said that cotton pickers are de
manding ,j0 cents and “feed” per hun
dred in some portions of the county.
They’ve heard of the threatened strike
out west.
The popular laugh-maker, Bobby Gay-
lor, is on the high road to wealth. Out
of bis earnings with the “Irish Arab’’
last season ho purchased four lots In
Chicago and erected dwelling houses on
them.
Tickets for “Bobby Gaylor” will be on
sale at Allison 4 Aycook’s Friday morn
ing at 9 o’clock, by reason of Thomp
son 4 Anderson's not being ready. Mr.
Thompson will be there to sell the
tickets.
Among the Tubblsb near the old court
house a watermelon vine grows undis
turbed, and not one of the negro hands
employed in tearing the building down
has thrown anything upon ' it. Strange,
isn’t It ?
A couple of negro cotton pickers drew
quite a crowd Into Oliver Bros, estab
lishment yesterday with the music they
extracted from harmonicas. They
played everything, from “The Cackling
Hen" up!
Many people suppose that Bobby Gay-
lor’s peculiarities of speech are affected
by him, but it is not so. His strange In
tonation of speech and peculiar Irish ac
cent are perfectly natural to him, and
were the cause of his changing from
negro minstrelsy into Irish comedy
work.

Mr. M. J. Murphy, tbe representative
of the Bobby Gaylor Company, reached
town last night and mode the necessary
preparations for his company's perform
ance here on tbe 15th. He is very en.
tbuslastio over the merits of -both star
and piece, andtbelupporting company.
“When I engaged with Mr. Gaylor,”
said Mr. Murphy, “I was a little uncer
tain about accepting the position. I
have, and always had, a most thorough
dislike to euch exaggerated representa
tion! of the Irish character as that given
by Pst Rooney and others of t bat type,
and never having seen Mr. Gaylor'e per
formance, I Imagined him to be of that
class, judging from his pictures. I
therefore made diligent Inquiry about
him and the results pleased me very
much, consequently I accepted tbe en
gagement. As the play had not been
produced when I left New York, I bad
no chance of seoing either tbe star or it
until I reached Pittsburg.
“Tlio house was packed to the doors,
but I was bound to seo Gaylor or die.
The manager of tbe theater gave mo a
seat in his own box and together we wit
nessed the performance. It’s very hard
to make me laugh heartily, but Gaylor
did it that night. I laughed until I
cried, and when I looked at the mana
ger of the theater, the tears were rolling
down his cheeks too. Gaylor was cer
tainly the funniest man I over saw, and
the character of “Sport" flta him like a
dot. He is neat In all his work, and
have seen thousands of old Irishmen
just like him all my life.
“Mr. Brady, uuder whose direction
Gaylor is starring, hts surrounded him
with one of the best companies In ex-
lstence to-day, and has left nothing un
done to promote the success of the en
terprise. There Is Georgia Parker, our
dancer, for instance. If she were to get
half the booming given to Carmenclta,
the latter wouldn’t be beard of. Why,
she has demonstrated that fact by doing
all that Carmenclta does with equal grace
and then going to an extremely opposite
point by doing a Dutch sabot dance, or
a genuine hoe-down. It was she who
made “Hi Jennie Johnson” popular all
over the country a few years ago. She
Is a southern girl, and has more chlo and
vim In her than other woman on the
stage.”
•The Olympic quartette,” wkloh was
with “The Parlor Match” for seven
years, Is also In our company. They
have been over sixteen years together,
and have probably no equals In this or
any other country In their own particu
lar line. I could tell you a lot about
them, but os we have nearly thirty
people it would take me quite a while.
This much I will say, however, I have
handled some of the finest Irish attrac
tions that ever appeared in this country,
and am very proud of being tho repre
sentative of Mr. Gaylor and Ills talented
company.”

You know the old adage “Goods
well bonght are half sold.” When
wo bny staples—wo look for the
best qualities obtainable—when we
buy specialties, we look not alone
for quality, bat for the effects that
the finest fancies and the latest
fads demand. In addition to this
we always look for the lowest price
that factories will give,' and the
best of it is, we don’t stop looking
until we get there on all three
points—quality, stylo and price.
After gossiping on trade, novel
ties and prices—gossip naturally

Its not much gossip to tell you
that when this new stock began to
come in, it did not find onr shelves
empty. Here, there and every

new lines we are marking up. Its
a question of convenience with ns
os much as price—you ought to
see these goods.
