The Avera Grocery Company has this
day originated a new idea in advertising.
Something that will not only advertise
their magnificent stock of fine goods,
but will also be of benefit to the public
generally. Ladles are troubled a great
deal about what to cook. How often do
you hear the expression, “Oh, I don’t
know what to hare for dinner or sup
per,’’ as the case may be. This accom
modating firm will try to obviate this
trouble by publishing In their column
every day a new receipt for a good
wholesome and Inexpensive dish. These
receipts will not be old stale compli
cated cook book receipts, but will be
something new. A different receipt
will be published every day, and the
goods to fill these will always be on
hand at
The Avera Grocery Comhasy.
Mu.lc.l Notice.
Mrs. Madden suggests to those per
sons desirous of Instruction in Instru
mental and vocal music to make ar
rangements with her promptly, as the
opportunity for the same will not be
kept open very much longer.

The Savannah, America i & Montgom
ery railroad will be operating trains be
tween Montgomery and Lyons, the
present termini, within the next sixty
days. Messrs.-W. E. Hawkins, second
vice-president; J. C. Wright, engineer of
maintenance of way; W, W. Campbell,
inspecting engineer, all of the S. A. & M.
road, whose headquarters are at Ameri
cus, were id the city yesterday.
They came here for the purpose of
meoting Major Hunter, engineer of main
tenance of way, of the Richmond A- Dan
ville road, stationed at Savannah. A
conference was held daring Lite day for
the purpose of settling the widely dis
cussed question—that of the S. A. &
M. road obtaining entrance to the union
depot, and obtaining the right to cross
the lUchmoud A- Danville’s M. A- E,
tracks noar the city.
The matter was practically settled
and. in a short time, the S. A. A M.
road will begin the work of constructing
their track frutu Clisby’s Park to their
property ou the corner of Lawrence and
Jefferson streets. After this work Is
completed a connection will be built to
the M. A E. then the S. A. A- M. trains
will be seen at the union depot.
An Advertiser reporter saw Mr. Hawk
iaa last night just before he took the
train for his home. He said that the S.
A. AM. road would be completed bey
ond a doubt, and would be turned over
to the company by the con
tractors within the next sixty
daye. The bridge across the Chatta
hoochee river was completed Wednes
day and the track laid across. There is
now only a gap of about four miles un
finished on this side of the bridge. Two
additional construction trains were put
on the road yesterday between this city
and the bridge, aud the track is rapidly
being surfaced up and put in order. As
soon as the road Is turned over to the
company two trains will be put on to
run on schedule time between Montgom
ery and Americus, It will be a big day
for Montgomery when this road Is
opened up for operation —Montgomery

THE RESULT,
Wlieu it n-as recently announced
that Thornton Wheatley’s usual
pilgrimage had been made to the
Eastern markets, the public waited
to see iu these columns, the report
of what had been done for their
benefit in the way of novelties in
goods and revelations in low prices.
All things being nou- Ready for

The Private Secretary.
A large house greeted the Edwin Tra
vers company last night in William Gil
lette’s famous comedy “The Private Sec
retary,” and to merely say It was a suc
cess would certainly be drawing it mild.
Although the play has been presented
here before by some very strong com
panies, it loses nothing in its strength as
presented by the company last night.
Special mention should be made of
Mr. Wm. Fairbanks in the title role,
which we think was better taken than
by any one that hat assumed
the role heretofore. The Cattermoie of
Harry Mytioge, the Douglass of EdwiD
Travers, the Gibsou of E, J. Meek, tho
MIsb Ashford of Miss Bertha Livings
ton, aud the Miss Stead of Miss Nelly
Whiting, were all admirably taken.
In fact a more evenly balanced company
has not graced the boards of our opera
house this season. The costumes were
elegant, the stage setting were elaborate
and w-ortliy of the cleanest, funniest and
most charming comedy of tiie present
day.—Oil City I'a. Derrick.

much about a stove ?
Yon know there are stores and
stoves and stoves—some are mere

good stoves and then again, some
are the best stoves made. Let ns
ask yon two more questions: Will
yon want a stove ? Won’t yon
want the best store made ? Now
we let the subject hang right there
and
Have you ‘caught on’ to the lat
