When the corner stone of the old court house is opened up it may bring to light some relics of the long ago. The old court house is slowing melting away, and soon a beautiful street will be made across from Forsyth to Lamar. The new brick store of Mr. P. L. Holt, on Lamar street is completed and pre sents quite an Imposing appearance. The Georgia press of the towns where The Private Secretary has been played this season are universal in its praise. A two-legged goat is the latest acqui sition to tlio wonders of Americus. It is on exhibition daily on tfaestroets. The S. A. M. road is hauling largo lots of cotton from Albany. It is brought up to Cordcle over the A. F. & X. R. R. Bo sure and go to see The Private Sec retary to-morrow night at the opera house, the purest, cleanest comedy of the American stage. Americus and Eufaula will join hands next month, and the latter will be the loser of one of its fairest flowers. Americus always geti the best. Dr. J. J. W. Ford lias set an example which others should imitate. He has reccnlly laid a good brick pavement In front of his residence on Church street. A young drug clerk in. Movements In the Social and Business Circles of Americus. Mr. L Casper, the tailor, returned to the city yesterday. Mr. W. W. Thompson of Smlthville was in the city yesterday. Mrs. Guthrie of the public schools Is very sick at her home on Jackson street. Mrs. H. G. Bell and babies have re turned from a protracted stay in Colum bus. Mr and Mrs. R. L. McLeod are pre paring to keep bouse In a pretty cottage on Forsyth street. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Fite's pretty new residence on Forrest street is completed. They will soon occupy It. Miss Jennie Stapleton, daughter of Mr. George Stapleton, will leave in a fow days to attend college in LaGrange. Mr. J. A. Riviere will leave Monday for the Okeefenokee swamp, where he will take charge of a large canal gang. Mr. Pervlance of the S. A. M. returned yesterday from Birmingham, Ala., where he has been for the past several days. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Wheatley returned Tuesday night from a lengthy visit to relatives In New Jersey and Pennsylva nia. Mr. and Mrs. Wheatley are stop ping for a few days at the residence of Mr. Geo. D.
