She will be, if she’s wisely cared for. As she enters womanhood, Dr. Pierce’s Favorite Prescription builds up and strengthens the system and regulates and pro motes the functions. It’s a supporting tonic, and a quiet ing, strengthening nervine. Ii corrects and cures all those delicate derangements and weaknesses peculiar to the sex. In evefy case for which it’s recommended, the “ Favor ite Prescription ” is guaranteed to give satisfaction. If there’s no help, there’s no pay. It does all that’s claimed for it, the ’ money is refunded, a risky way to sell it— but it isn’t your risk. This is the way with the Ball corset: if you want ease and shapeliness, you buy it—but you don’t keep it unless you like it. After two or three weeks’ wear, you can return it and have your money. Comfort isn’t all of h though. Soft Eyelets, and “bones” that can’t break or kink—Ball’s conets hare both of these. For sal* by GEO. D. WHEATLEY. Nick Whiskey Tb. Abaggy Moniirr Lacerated thr H.nt.r Most Frightfully And Then Wntehed Ova: the Body Until 8etl.fl.il Thnt l.lfe We. Extinct. The name of a well known citizen of Humboldt county on the Rnss [louse register u few day. ago recalled to Ills friends the story of a desperate light with grizzlies in the early days. It was in the full of 18.11, and three starving men crawled thnfngb a thick growth of Humboldt county timber and found themselves facing eight monstei grizzly bears. Goaded to desperation by hunger the men determined to attack the ferocious unimals. The heart of Thomas Sealning failed as the little party drew near the bears, and he sought shelter by climbing a tree The other men, S. K. Wood and Isaac Wilson, threw prudence to the winds r.nd advanced to within fifty yards of the bears. Wood fired his rifle anil the nearest hear fell, biting and tearing the ground us though in the agonies of death. While Wood was reloading hiz rifle Wilson brought down a bear. Five of the grizzlies retreated up a ravine, hut one shaggy monster remained with her fallen companions. She sat erect on her haunches and turned her eyes on the men ns if daring them to battle. Wilson, awed by her aspect, ran for a tree, while Wood tried to reload his gun, bat found himself unable to rain the ball down on the powder. While ia thih pre dicament the grizzly thnt had not fled rushed at him. Wood succeeded in get ting into a small buckeye tree, and used his gun to beat the bearclT as she at tacked the tree with the intention of shaking him out. IX THE JAWS OF A ORI2ZI.V. While he was engaged in lighting off this l>ear. Wood, to his horror, saw the animal he had wounded rise and rash to ward him. No blows that he could in- liict on the wounded animal could check her. At the first spring she made the treo broke r.nd the bears jumped for Wc'od. He gained his feet und made with all Sliced down the mountain, where another small tree stood about thirty yards "away. He reached the tree with the wounded bear at his heels, and. seiz ing the trunk, he swung his body around so as to give tbe bear room to pass him, which she did, plunging headlong down the mountain about twenty yards. Before Wood could, with bis failing strength, swing himself into the tree the second bear bounded np and seized his right ankle. By this time the wounded bear returned, and as Wood fell she snapped at hia face. He dodged, and she canght his left shonlder. Then commenced a terrific straggle The maddened animal* tugged in oppo site directions at Wood's ankle and shonl der, and he was in imminent danger of being torn to pieces. He fonght as best he oonld, but each exertion he pnt forth only intensified the rage of the bears. When he wee almost fainting with pain the bear that had not been wounded dropped his ankle and trotted slowly after his companions np tbe ravine. Then the wounded bear let-go her hold on his shonlder. Wood sank back on the ground, and lay perfectly quiet aa though dead, hardly daring to breathe, The grizzly stood majestically over Mm, watching for the slightest movement, and snarling with rage. The pain that packed the man's fount) was frightful, and he risked his life in an effort to as sume an easier position. RESCUED Hr BAD SOAPS. At tbe first movement the grizzly, roaring furiously, rushed at him. She shoved her nose close to hie face and sniffed at him, but Wood was again mo tionless, and the bear, raising ber bead, gave rent to unearthly screams. Wood, knowing that his life depended on it, remained motionless, and tbe bear trotted after ber companions np the ravine. When he attempted to rise Wood fonnd that his right hip was dislocated and bis left shonlder chewed to the bone, while bis olothing had been stripped from his and his flesh had been chewod in a H-J places. Inch by inch he pain fully dragged himself from the spot, un til Seabriug and Wilson, accompanied by David A. Back, the latter of whom bad been left to guard tbo camp, fonnd him and carried him to their quarters. *. the party remained twelve the mout of the bear ’ were lost in PRINTERS’ INK.
