Barlow Brothers' Min.trels.
Barlow Brother!’ Ulnstrels opened
their engagement at the Theater Ven-
dome last evening under tbe most favor
able circumstances, as they were greeted
by a crowded house. The “flret part”
ie one of the best that has been present
ed in this city for many a season, and
includes, beside the many jokes and
witticisms, an unusual amount of really
fine singing.
The vocalists of the oompany are
exceedingly fine, and In each care in
‘first psrt" were required to respond to
encores. The opening scene Is one
which will long be remembered by the
auditors, owing to Its rich hangings of
plush and fancy corded ropes, hung in
plushes of rare colors that blend to
gether perfectly. The "reception” intro
duced Messrs. Barlow, MyAvoy, Bar-
low and Thomson asend men. Their
■ong* and Bayings are new and funny.
Royer and Dougherty also took the part
of end men to tbe satisfaction of the au
ditor*. Billy Barlow snng a tong en
titled "You can Imagine the Rest,” and
was forced to repeat the verse* almost
backwards so many times he was en
cored. “Climb that Ladder,” by Mr.
James Barlow, was a really bright gem,
and, to use a slang expression, “caught
the house.” Mr. LaBord'e rendition, “I
have Recalled those Angry Words,” was
one of the choice .bits of tbe flret part,
and well rendered. A little sketch In
troducing Messrs, Barlow, MoAvoy, Bar-
low and Rummell was provocative of no
end of mirth. Thomson and Dados
proved themselves musicians of no mean
order. Mr. Lon Hudson has an excel
lent baritone vdoe, and won anooeaa.
‘■Cinderella Jaokson's Masquerade”
was the name of a character song and
dance, In which Messrs. Barlow Broth
srs, MoAvoy, Royer, La Bord, Emerson,
Adams and Dougherty showed, many
new and Intridt step* in the dance, and
to lay that they ddlghted the audience
would be patting It mildly.
Ferry, the frog man, was wdl received
and • substantiated his title, “King of
Novelty Wonder*.” .
The entertainment concludes with tbe
Leon Brothers in acrobatic feats and
gymnastlo gyrations and completely
took tbe audience by storm.—Nashville
(Tenn.) Banner.
