A largo shortage in winter apples predicted by the New England Home stead, on the baaia of 1,000 special re ports from the commercial orchard re gions of the United States and Canada. A heavy crop of fall apples is admitted. Maine has an even poorer crop tbun last year, and, while the production in the other New England states and . in New York la considerably above the unprece dented shortage of 1800, the average of the (even states U only fifty-two com' pared with thirty-eight last yeur, 100 representing a full crop. It Was Only Hit Wooden Leg. George Sorter, whose home is near Edgeinont, attended a reunion at Pen Mar Thursday. A few years ago Uorter had one leg torn off by a threshing ma chine, and has since then used a Wooden leg. He undertook to walk from Pen Mar to Edgeimint, and becoming tired lay down liesidu the' railroad track to rest and fell asleep. While in this posi tion a train passed by.
